Hello everyone,

I keep getting an error on my first start of P3D.  I just installed it and then when I load it up, it gives me the default flight and fatal errors out.  The report is here:

You should download and install AppCrashView (see the AVSIM CTD Guide located to the right of this forum under Hot Spots for the link). It provides a little more information. The guide also has information related to BEX (Buffer Exception Overruns) errors. They are impossible to diagnose and there is no one solution that will fix the problem. You have to investigate the problem yourself. The faulting module is shown as Unknown and BEX errors are usually followed by StackHash or NTDLL.dll errors. It all means your p3d and/or display driver settings are too high or you employed a bad tweak in your p3d.cfg. There are so many possibilities for solving this problem but I would start with moving your p3d.cfg to a temporary folder (or deleting it), restarting P3DV2 and letting the config rebuild. Go fly the same route and see if the problem reoccurs. If not, it was most likely a bad tweak or high setting in P3D.

Thanks for your reply,

I will get the app crash viewer as soon as possible.  As for the cfg, I have deleted and restored it to no avail.  The BEX error is the only one showing up.  I am unable to tune down settings (no cfg tweaks have been employed) because this being my first install, the sim starts a flight immediately.  I get the default fighter on the ground.  Instantly, the sim freezes and crashes with a BEX error.

I will try to get the more detailed report soon,

Thanks,

As a rule of thumb, don't install Prepar3d into Program Files...it's begging for rights issues.  I have seen BEX errors relating to  DEP Data Execution Prevention settings.  As Jim says, there are many forks in the road.

Any other ideas with the new data?  I have yet get the sim to start without a fatal error,  As mentioned before, It might be because of high settings, but I am unable to change these settings because it always goes straight into the default flight.  Then, before I can click the menu, it crashes.  How can I change the settings?

Check out the new AVSIM CTD Guide. Version 2.0 was released yesterday. The first section is entitled "Actions to take after a crash is encountered" and has several new recommendations, like checking your Event Viewer for errors, returning your application back to the default settings, Deleting Facilities/Scenery Indexes and the Shaders Folders, scanning your system for corrupt/missing files, etc.

When you delete or move your P3D.cfg to a temporary folder and restart P3D, it will be rebuilt and that may be all you will have to do as you may have a bad parameter or your logbook.bin may be corrupted. This will return P3D to load the default flight.

Your installation of P3DV2 appears to be complete and accurate. The proper Microsoft.net and Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 are installed. Think the above recommendations will fix your problems.

Hi again,

I have tried everything in the CTD guide to no avail (other than full re install of windows).  I dread to to this because I'm not sure how my addons will react to the reinstall (I have to email PMDG and such).  Are there any more actions I can take before I do this?

Thanks
