That you're looking at the NGX I assume you're thinking FSX as your sim platform. A couple of things to consider.

1- FSX is a processor killer. The i5 is underpowered for an FSX rig. Invest a few more £ and upgrade to an i7 processor.

2- FSX is more stable when installed on a separate hard drive so a second 1T is best.

3- FSX works best with nVidia chipset cards so that's another must have upgrade.

4- Off the shelf systems rely on value components to keep the cost down. FSX can push an OCd system pretty aggressively and a value or budget spec'd system isn't capable of handling the stress. Components fail too early or fail to provide the performance you're looking for i.e. reasonable graphics content and smooth performance.

A custom build is more the standard and you can even build one yourself if you are moderately mechanically inclined. There are lots of forum listing on AVSIM that can guide you through the process and many hobbyists that would be glad to give you the benefit of their experience. I'm on my fourth FSX build and my system handles pretty much everything I throw at it.

Good luck

The i7 has no performance affect on FSX the extra cache has next to no affect and FSX cant use the threads so unless you are doing some crazy multi tasking or video editing there is no point.

That second link would be fine with a gtx 770 in it - that AMD video card is junk

Type "K" Intel CPU (i5 is good enough for FSX), a good basic MB (Asus Z97A would be my choice), 2 x 4gig ram (1600 or better), GTX x70 or better (4g is my choice) and a mild overclock will give you your 20-30 FPS, no problem. Cheaper to build yourself or give these specs to whom ever you buy from as a starting point.

Ok I will give that a try and do you know how much this will cost thanks

I don't know too much about UK prices and availability, but you were pretty close with the Palicomp rig in your post #3, except that I would try to go with the Asus Z98-A and definitely get rid of that 1g HD7770 and go with a GTX970 with minimum 2g VRAM.

Overclock that 4690k and let it loose with a 4gig GTX970 and it will handle FSX + Addons very well.

Regards,

P.S. As previously suggested, it would be good if you could also spring for a second HD.

I looked at this computer and wonded how many fps I would get in the pmdg ngx cockpit at uk2000 airports mainly East Midlands with active sky

http://www.palicomp.co.uk/gaming-pcs/INTEL-Haswell-i5-Commander.html

I get 35-45 FPS with my setup (Look at my profile for specs). Adding the GTX980 only gave me a boost of a few fps

Addons used

PMDG 777,NGX

FTX Global

FSDT airports,Flytampa,Flightbeam all atleast in the 30's FPS's

This is with a Thunderstorm with full overcast selected.

Rex 4 Clouds

Mytraffic 2013

And almost every slider to the right with the exception of traffic which is set at 25%, and Autogen that is set at dense.

ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI.

10-15 FPS

11-16 FPS

Foolish comments.... anyone who has been uysing FSX for a long time knows that frame rates are related to a lot more things than just hardware alone.
