fsx - cannot see runway at airport with hjg tristar

Featured Replies

Hi,

this wkend i downloaded the tristart package from hjg....all installed well and running fine however practically i cannot use it as the panel (2D) sits high and obscures all outside view of the ground.

forum at hjg were very helpful giving a lot of insights but still no joy.

i have controls disabled in fsx as i use fsuipc to input controls to the sim...i endlessly tried shift+enter and control+q etc but no command seems to get the view correctly...furthermore, one screen shot of another user on hjg that installed same package in fsx shows a complete different view to what i am getting and also has a widescreen monitor like mine.

so anyone has installed this package and can give some insight on how to get to see the outside view with my setup...can i alter some line in panel.cfg to get to see the view maybe or some other key combination that gets my view up when flying the tristar.

tks to all

emann

Get Ezdok and you won't have this issue with any plane.

Have you tried zooming out the cockpit view to 30 or 40?

hi...how would you do the zoom thing pls?

Emann,

Since the aircraft only has the 2D panel you can adjust the look "pitch" in the panel.cfg file.  You will see something like the example below in your panel.cfg file, (see red part)  adjust this number then reload the aircraft to check settings. Repeat until a good look/view is found.

 For more information see here.

Hope this helps.

ok...this is what i need i think...so to confirm i should change the 10 (in the example above) to a figure larger or smaller with trial and error to get the correct view.

Emann,

Yes.. As long as you downloaded one of the panel packages available for the HJG 1011. Without a panel package the stock download only aliases a stock FS aircraft. Just for confirmation I downloaded just 1 of the 4 of the panel packages for the 1011 and looked at the panel.cfg. The entry is there. The greater the positive number, the more one looks down at the runway.  Adjust as needed.

Have you tried using Ctrl+Q to lower your view onto the runway and Ctrl+shift+Q to raise it?  I

realize that making the number change may be a more permanent change, but it sounds

like you are getting nowhere with it.

any assistance appreciated.

You said you have a wide screen monitor. Therefore you must change the zoom from 1.00 to 0.80 if 16:9 or 0.81 if 15:9 step one.

You need also to change all the the other views to similar values. You will need to experiment a little. This is all done from the panel.cfg. e.g. VIEW_FORWARD_ZOOM=0.790 and/or VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_ZOOM=0.820 etc.

Step 2 is a little more complex as you need to know how much tarmac is obscured by looking directly out in front. Unlike Boeings the Tristar has good sized windows so the obscured view directly ahead would be in the region of say 130 feet. Perhaps even a bit less. A good way to work it out is to line up your a/c on the rwy so that the pilot's position is directly over the end of a white line. Measure forwards from that line 130ft in afcad2 and see where it finishes and that point should be just visible from your cockpit. Change the first number of VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=. Measure the eye height above ground, draw a line from that point to the required point on the rwy and that is the eye angle i.e the first number. Once you're happy with that you need to change all the side views to match. e.g. VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_DIR=2.350, 0.000, 315.000

The first number is the eye angle and the last is the compass rose view.

Here for example VIEW_FORWARD_DIR=2.985, 0.000, 3.300 the last number correctly displays the paralax of viewing the centre line from the left hand side shifting the line also to the left. You will have to play around a bit and hopefully if it's a good 2D cockpit it should look ok. If it's a 2D cockpit that covers most of the screen giving the impression of flying by looking out of a letter box it will never look right.

Hi emann,

I don't use 2D panels but recall it's a simple matter to click on any non-gauge area of the panel and drag it down.  Of course you won't be able to see the, now off-screen gauges, and there may be portions of the outside view that are black but it's quick and dirty and may suit your needs.  It's simple to move it back also.

Or, you can move the cursor to the bottom of the screen until it changes to a double-headed arrow (I'm assuming you're flying full screen) click and move the bottom up to compress the window and then move it down as previously.  Squished gauges, but?

Hi all,

once again tks for the input...

i m starting to think if this could be related to ezdok in some way...i have this installed and works flawlessly for the vc but since the HJG tristar does not have a vc and only 2d panels maybe i should deactivate it for this aircraft and see what views i get as well as see if the ctr+Q or shift+enter would work?...if this is so how would you disable ezdok for one aircraft only pls?

tks
