Just a tip...there are thousands of files installed over these products...and you really need to do a defrag run after you install every UTX product you own..... Seriously....or or there will be system induced stutter....in FSX by not having cleaned up your hard drive.

Hi Mitch. Thanks for the excellent write-up on your experiences with UTX (US). I've held off so far but will probably make a move now.

I see from your system spec you have HDDs so a defrag is fine. SSD owners should not do this of course.

" Will be in P3D when they come."

Hi Mitch - UTX V2 US is for P3D also but you must know that - thanks for the heads up - one thing the only thing that is bugging me is as you fly along the lights turn on as you approach meaning the distance lights are not on until you keep flying into an area you seeing this - thanks

Hi Rich, ...yes..I meant just as Allan had updated USA for both platforms, I will look forward to the same for my others...Canada, Carib, Europe, etc to the new v2.0.  :)  FSX and P3D.

Correct Ray...I have two Velociraptors...and defrag after most installs.   You'll love this Ray...and what a blast to have seen the great new ground illumination now in Canada....what a blast.... :)

Perfectly

Totally agree..as well as OpenLC

Here is an important tip for UTX USA v2.0 users...and any legacy UTX that is now displaying the v2.0 UTX Lighting System.

------------------------------------------------

As per the manual, it firmly points out that the system in your Scenery Lib as UTX_LIGHTS (or something similar..you'll see it...) is taken into VAS NO MATTER if you are in Dusk, Night, or Dawn mode.  I repeat...even if you are in Day mode (but the lights are not graphically being displayed...)  they are sitting in memory doing nothing.

A good use scenario, would be this....

If you are running FSX or P3D in daylight...then go into your Scenery Lib, and un-check the box for the UTX_Lights.   They will no longer be using system resources.  If you go from day to dusk...just hop into your Scenery Lib...and enable that box....press OK, out of the Scenery Lib...and your lights will show as normal.  When you go from dawn, to day...yes...go back into your Scenery Lib...and disable the feature.

Bottom line...the 'lights are on..and costing VAS 'money'...even if you don't see them in daylight...so save VAS, and 'turn the lights off' when not being displayed in scenery tiles...

Another Tip:

If you have, or as a result of this thread, re-installed any version of a UTX product below v.2.x...then you need to go into your Scenery Library, and uncheck the UTX Lights feature of each of those products. You will do this once, as you will never be using this feature of the product again, and you don't want it to load this element into the system memory.  You will be using the new AUTOGEN LIGHTS for UTX, and that should be either turned on, or off, depending on whether you are flying at a time of day, where lights should, or will over time, become visible.

So, go into each UTX product (legacy) setup, and make the lighting section all 'inactive', and then go into the Scenery Library, and uncheck off all the UTX Light boxes for each product.  They are now redundant.

Some great shots Mitch not sold on the night portion on V2 - V1 was excellent but at huge fps penalty - wish we could have all maybe some day - have a great turkey day

Hi Rich, I guess that it is how it translates from screen to compressed pic.

I am really liking how life-like the grand cast is...and am now totally hooked on it.  I have only eaten around 3 FPS for most scenes, and can well afford that for what the UTX products brings to the plate. I was (before flying in Myrtle Beach (KMYR), South Carolina) flying around Chapleau, Ontario, Canada, which is having one heck of a snow fall right now via ASN, and found how easy it is now to identify roads, railroads, and VFR them, for hundreds of miles, if that is your pleasure.  With Vector 1.15 and .20, I could easily lose sight of a roadway, as it was basically, only a thin grey line.  The road detail, and all other aspects of what UTX contrasts, as to the Vector product as it stands, has me very happy to stay with it.  I do miss the most excellent feature of Vector for the Winter months...the frozen water...that was awesome...and kudos to Pilot's, but with UTX in control above Vector's...yes, I have lost that feature and have open water in winter.  That is about the only downside for me. Everything else, is on the thumb's up.  For what I now have added to the sim....I can live with that....

Cheers, and Happy Thanksgiving....I can smell the Turkey...and Oh man.....I'll be into that shortly.....

Just flew inland from the coastline of Myrtle Beach (KMYR), South Carolina....for a few hundred miles, and my statement is simply this...

...with the commercial data from Tom-Tom, that the UTX USA v2.0 uses to create roads, rivers, streams, all of it....FSX has never looked better. The state of South Carolina, has never looked better...and yes...Allan, he as the developer has proved it...a 'vector' product is ONLY as good as the data base you choose, to create the program with.

UTX USA v.20...is fabulous.

What a difference this product makes in rendering features of the State of South Carolina...because, it is all there.....for you to fly over.... :)

Happy Thanksgiving all,  have to get into Thanksgiving Family Mode...and here we gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo------->

Good stuff Mitch  - carry on Buddy :)

I have UTX USA 2.0.Do I understand that if now I reinstall my other UTX areas I will see a big improvement in the scenery?Or just the lighting?I am the original poster of the "which LC with UTX 2.0".Now I see that has gone full circle and UTX 2.0 does not have new LC?Thanks,Ron

Bring back Chief Illiniwek!University of Illinois.

Ron its completely new and much better - it has its own landclass built in - if you have a landclass that can do the vegetation better you can install that and layer it between urban and vegetation layers see my post on this - long story short you dont need another LC product

I downloaded and installed UTX USA v2. Enabled default light settings and re-arranged scenery library.

My 1st flight in Tampa was very pleasant. I like the new lights on the ground, but not the roads.

I then tried NYC and I noticed a drop in fps and the textures were replaced by what looked like default.

I tried to tweak the lights and it was not user friendly.

I went to KLAS and noticed that some lights were very high above the ground.

I was never able to change the lights back to default, so I decided to reset my computer.

I'll stick with FTXG and wait for FTX USA LC.

Well, I have been playing around with how you can get the best TOGETHER...our of UTX , Global, and OpenLC.  The good news is you can, Stan.

I have all UTX Landclass turned off, and have OpenLC running the show...and what do I have?   Oh...Vector 1.20 is totally disabled in the Scenery Lib....and what do you have.....is the really great features of UTX Europe (Legacy) layered over the great OpenLC Europe landclasses, with only one very minor (in my books) hitch...that highway cloverleafs, are cut in half, and truncated. That has been the only 'glitch'.  If you disable OpenLC Europe, and re-enable all the UTX Landclasses, including the special one with the UTX Europe pacakge,  all highway cloverleafs return in full and render faithfully.  You know what....even under the UTX Landclasses, everything looks great. You don't need OpenLC to be there, to make it all look most excellent, for FSX Global Euopre.  The best part...is that due to a user's personal preference...you have the choice.   UTX Landclass, or OpenLC for Europe.  It is only a few clicks in the Scenery LIb, and you are away to the races.
