i7 2600k vs i7 5930k

Recommended Posts

Now I run my 2600k at 4,6ghz HT off.

Would it be worth getting the 5930k with 6 cores?

Clearly I probably can't make it run at same speed, perhaps 4,0 or 4,2 at best.

Anyone tried this or similar CPU?

Not worth the cost, IMO. FSX performs better with a higher clocked cpu, versus one with more cores. Even if the 5930k can be overclocked to 4.4 ghz, the cost of upgrading to x99, and ddr4, is crazy expensive at the moment. As is the case with every new tech that has come out. (ie, the switch from ddr2 to ddr3.) The higher clocked ram (2800mhz) is being offset by the higher latency timings (cl15 or cl16), so you will not see much performance increase, if any, with FSX. It may be better for you to hold off for now, and wait for Intel's next gen, Broadwell, CPU. It has been rumoured to be the next major 'tock' in Intel's 'tick-tock' CPU cycle.

Thanks for the reply.

And I think my 2600k does a fairly good job.

For only Fsx and the cost no.

But for sure a 5820k 5930k performs like a 4790k at the same clock ( memspeed 3000 cl15) in FSX.

Overclocking Haswell-E 4.3-4.7ghz with HT on , 4.4-4.9ghz HT off.

When Skylake arrive with DDR4 compability you gone see a new approach in OC.

Not only the CPU clock the need for very high memclock +3400mhz gone suprize in apps like FSX P3D.
