Can I delete install cache files P3D V2.4?

Recommended Posts

What are the consequences of eliminating folder containing P3D V2 installation files (10.4GB)?
Can I move to another unit?
I refer to files that are in hidden folder C: \ ProgramData \ Package Cache.

If you're trying to free up space because you have a small SSD that the OS lives on, I'd advise getting a larger SSD as you will most likely run into more problems even if you remove package cache.  For example FS Global install would only partially install (no warnings) because my main OS drive only had 13GB free.  To be "Safe" for any installs (including Windows updates and restore points) you really want to keep 40GB free on your main OS drive at all times.

But to answer you specific question you typically don't want to delete it as it could cause issues during a repair and/or uninstall ... if you don't care what happens during a repair or uninstall then go ahead.

Cheers, Rob.

You can be more specific in what would be the problem uninstall?

Use of simulators a basic way, not third-party scenarios, few, very few aircraft, modifications only REX 4 Direct, thus practically have no problems asking for repair, do not do long flights, a maximum of 90 minutes.

Thank you for your attention.

If removing the P3D package cache files causes a problem during the Uninstall process, this may in turn cause issues with the license validation process and may cause error 5013 next time you install ... as it would think you are trying to do two installations with just one license.

I haven't actually tested this situation so I can say for sure, maybe you'll be fine, maybe not.  I would recommend you NOT remove the package cache to be on the safe side.

Cheers, Rob.

Since not of all of can run aout and buy the biggest and greatest thing available. I store the package cache on a external HDD and put it back in when needed.

Thank you all for the help.
Install cache files will remain in place.
Risks to remove, are high, I'm getting another way to have more free space.
