Goat Simulator

As a Cattle farmer/Rancher,  I stll laugh every time I see that! If I were the fine folks a Milviz, and I'm sure I don't need to tell them, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over the Dovetail thing!

Since Jims from the Detroit area. Wunder if he ever visited the "Goat Farm"? :P

P3D won't appeal to the masses like FSX will over Steam or have anywhere close to the type of mass marketing that DTG will have. Steam is a massive marketing machine that gets people to buy things like Goat Simulator

You are right about the mass marketing appeal of Steam, but seriously, i wonder who will buy this, people who are interested in flight simming will already know about it and have it.

I see two potential demographics, people who see the pretty pictures and decide to buy it, they will soon realize you can't blow other people up and the engine dates from 2006; even if these people become interested in flight simming they will move to DCS.  The second are people who buy it on a whim (probably a sale), mess around, crash the default aircraft and never touch it again.

So who does that leave, well, people already on here who want the convenience of Steam (much like I did for DCS), but they are not likely to migrate over with the vague assurances relating to compatibility on offer from Dovetail.

I think the last thing  a newcomer on Steam needs is a very complex aircraft add-on that requires  reading a detailed manual before he can even start it. That will make convince him he's wasted his money and try another hobby. That's no good to anyone.

So these same people are going to love the time spent on configuration it takes FSX to work correctly, even assuming that Dovetail change the .cfg file to include things like the HIGHMEMFIX etc..

...and again, if they are wanting simply planes to fly around in, why wouldn't they have bought X-Plane?  It's a brand new engine from last year, not 7 years ago, supports 64-bit and looks MUCH better out of the box than FSX.

What makes FSX special are the addons, made by the very same people you have been saying that Dovetail don't have to bother with.  I would be pretty upset if i pay £30 (my guess) for Steam FSX and then find that i can't use the Milviz 737 or the PMDG 777, but my friend who has paid £12 for a copy of FSX Gold off ebay can use them.

All of this is speculation, but from what i have seen and heard so far i am not optimistic.

Of course they won't love it. They'll simply walk away from it.

Well it was always true with Flight Simulator even back to 1979 when Bruce Artwick released the thing. It was always there and the masses always said 'Cool' when they saw it.....but less then 10% actually took it any further.

For me I got my first copy of Flight Simulator 1 when I was 12 years old and trading 5.5" floppy disks around the school yard. We had 100's of games and Flight Simulator was in that trade pool. No one bothered with it except for me.

If 1 out of every 10 to 20 people that purchase FSX Steam Edition take it to the next level then that seams about right. I think for most people on here have their story of how they first got into this in the first place as well. I think it was more fun discovering it in a pile of 5.5" Floppy's in 1983 then discovering it on a pop up banner on Steam like the latest 12 year old kids will find it, but a new generation of simmers is always welcome.

Just don't beat them up on the forums when they eventually turn this way....some of you can be a wee bit salty at times.

That Goat Simulator comment was a good one. If there is a market for stuff like that, then Dovetail might just be smoking twenty pound notes come next Christmas, and laughing at all the idiots that bought P3D

It would take a lot more than the stuff in this thread!

Also please note that MS flight technology does not necessarily mean that DTG has any of the MS Flight code, though they might.

though they might.

Oooooh come on Jim,  i never have anything of value to say but i'm great listener.

but i'm great listener.

That is excellent because that is the best way to learn about stuff!!

Great, excellent OK then,  So what have we learnt today? Nothing really i suppose,

Firstly i am useless at extracting information,
