On-topic, isn't it weird that FSX doesn't have a Steam page yet? Most games get a page days or even weeks or even months before their release, even if they are not available for pre-order.

If a new forum appears, I hope it goes into the "Other Civil Aviation Simulators" or "Commercial Support Forums" , as, surely that would be the correct place to put it!

I doubt Dovetail have any wider interest in catering the hardcore simmers.  They shown with Train Simulator that they have no interest in high detailed, complex Trains to the point that developers stayed in MS Train Simulator or other sims until extinction. They care about detailed models that provide fast easy acessible fun that doesnt last too long, so you buy another DLC. Heck if you look into the DLC folder its 3k$ worth of DLC there and it is the most expensive Game in Steam (if you buy all the DLC).

 

That tells all you need to know. And from a business perspecitve it makes sense, even Euro Truck Simulator 2 has a bigger community than flightsim. So why keep this in this niche when you can broaden it up by simplifying it to the point that it is not realistic, but feels realistic enough so you feel like an accomplished airline pilot by following some simplified checklist and clicking 20 buttons to start the aircraft then doing some missions like "Your plane is late make this flight to JKF in time during peak traffic".  Dovetail wont make money from people buying one addon and then spending 2 years on it. They make money from people buying DLC after DLC after DLC every 2-3 month.

Nah! this is a great business decision by MS to get rid of FSX. It's almost like getting someone to re-distribute Windows Vista now that Windows 8.1 is out.

For Dovetail its problably also a good business model, They bring their own programm out next year anyway and i can bet that part of the multiplayer rewrite for fsx will be used in the new game aswell. So for them it is not exactly alot of extra work and they get to crossfinance their developement from a few thousand copies of fsx.

alpha12125 is right and I fear the same for the new Dovetail flight game!

 

I got the Dovetail Train Simulator 2015 for a few euros on a steam sale. It has some nice looking trains and its easy to get into. The routes about 300-400 meters right and left of the railroad tracks are nicely modelled. The scenery in the background looks odd some times. Also the ai passengers on the platforms look like a clone wars zombie army doing the Mikael Jackson moonwalk. Not that much effort went into modelling the ai virtual passengers apparently.

Lots of DLCs. A completely new train route is 29€.

The 4 year old son of a friend loves to play Train Simulator 2015!

I fear they have the mass market in their view, the casual gamer who loves easy games with nice eye-candy! Probably they think that they may have "lost" the hardcore simming crowd to P3D, X-Plane 10 and FSX "classic" anyway..so why cater to them anymore? Just a guess...

I  refuse to buy anything on Steam.

You know.... nobody cares about your anti-Steam crusade. If you had actually pointed out why you "refuse to buy anything on Steam" and contributed to this discussion instead of just declaring to the world that you hate it, your response might have been worthwhile.
