FSX: Steam Edition for Take-Off on December 18

Featured Replies

We are always in search of the Holy Grail.. Waiting for the next best thing, making up our wish list, then, moaning that when it finally happens, our hardware falls down. I love this amazing hobby of ours.

Well, Metal Gear Solid V is coming to Steam the same day so there goes my FSX moneys :(

some outstanding bugs have been resolved and we will be posting more details about them very soon.

future updates will only support the Steam Edition of the simulator

These are the bugs that everyone is talking about about, rite?  So this is a good thing rite? And also the reason that so many changed to Prepar3D?

I presume the only updates that FSX will be getting are to configure and run The simulator better on Steam, rite?  And not Memory or BIG updates?

I guess they're fixing things like the missing HIGHMEMFIX value and the UIAutomationCore.dll crash that plagued Windows 7 (I don't know about 8/8.1 though). As it has been said, they are not allowed by Microsoft to interfere with the game much (and I find the fact they are bringing a whole new multiplayer method very surprising), so I am not sure why people are asking for bigger things like 64-bit or DirectX 12, and end up feeling disappointed that it is largely the same FSX we got in 2006 (or better I should say 2007, when Acceleration was released).

Still though, there is no reason to bash it. Steam will bring FSX to a whole new audience, and that might be one more step to keeping our hobby alive. Yes, it will be criticised for its outdated graphics, but at least hardware has progressed a lot since 2006 which means it won't be bashed for its performance.

Saw the below on gamespot today:

Flight Simulator X will also offer multiplayer support and it works with Windows 8.1. Looking beyond the game's release next week, Dovetail says it plans to release a "range of add-ons" for the game starting in 2015. These were not named outright, but you can imagine more aircraft and locations.

Dovetail and Microsoft announced their Microsoft Flight licensing arrangement back in July. Per the terms of that deal, Dovetail gets to release Flight Simulator X on Steam, and also create new, original titles based on Microsoft's proprietary flight technology. These games have not been announced yet.

My name is Elaine, nice to meet you all

Thanks, that gave me a chuckle.

Please do NOT quote an entire post only add a single sentence. The forum is slow enough already, it doesn't need help...

I definitely asked in the right place LOL

Thanks for the responses guys  :drinks: .... and gals.

... my next 'server crashing' question would be: Who has the better software development team ? Lockheed Martin or Dovetail Games ?

Hi all.

Most people don't realize that there are several versions of the Mayan calendar. The version I am currently deciphering does not mention Dovetail or FSX. But there is a peculiar reference to Steam... and unless my math is inaccurate (which has happened before), the world ends December 18, 2014.

Hi Elaine! Nice to meetcha...

Just as an aside, about ten or eleven years ago we had a very active and prolific woman here at AVSIM. As it turned out though, this woman was actually a guy who finally admitted to being a cross-dresser. He would "suit up" in frilly stuff before posting and posing on-line... :LMAO:

It was a real shame to loose "him" though, as "he" really was a very talented and prolific livery artist!

Love this thread. It's so entertaining. I'm with Bimmercop, the plot twists, the double crosses, it's just awesome. Roll on the 18th.

Not sure why you used the laughing emoticon there. I, for one, don't find it that funny. Sorry.

LOL And the politically correct twist is just unfolding now with the latest post above this one! LOL

This thread has the makings of a classic. Happy to be part of it, even if it's just a cameo appearance.
