Ray Smith's AFCAD Taxiway Signs

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I downloaded several of Ray Smith's excellent airport afcads for FSX recently.

When I loaded them up, the taxi signs were missing...is there a reason for it?
I use REX OD for my textures and weather.

Thanks!

What's your scenery density setting? (Not Autogen) Some airport scenery objects, require a high setting to show. If you're not already at highest, try moving it to the right a notch.

Thanks

I have it at very dense (scenery complexity).

I moved them all to the right and the taxiway signs still didn't show for some reasons...I'm sure it has to do something with the OBJ file in the scenery/global/scenery

Can you give us a specific airport that you are having trouble with?

It is possible that Ray deleted the default signs and didn't replace them.

And it has nothing to do with the OBJ file. Taxi signs are defined in the airport file.

Joe

Oh ok. All of the airports pretty much...

I'm using a KCLT one right now w/o the taxiway signs for an example.

I loaded up the bgl in ADE, and I found that taxiway signs were there.

My scenery density slider is ALL the way up..and it still doesn't show!

Your two choices are Scenery Complexity and Autogen Density.

Taxi signs show up when Scenery Complexity is at or above Normal.

I tested Ray's KCLT and the signs display fine for me.

Joe

Yes, I have my scenery complexity set to the highest setting - extremely dense.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here...

usually I put the airport "RS" and "CVX" file into addon scenery/scenery.

The obj file into scenery/global/scenery. Is that correct?

I tried putting my settings down to normal and still, my taxiway signs are missing :/ Thanks!

Not too much else to add here, expect the Object file is not related to taxi signs (which are embedded directly into the AFCAD by Airport Design Editor).

Check to see if you have another AFCAD file for the same scenery lurking somewhere, that could cause this.

That is how Ray suggests in his readme. However I like to keep all files for an airport in the same place so I put the OBJ files in with the others.

I have a scenery area in the Scenery Library dedicated to "Afcad only" addons like Ray's that I keep right above the default layers.

That way, if I later get an addon that includes custom buildings etc. it will be above that layer in the Scenery Library. Also if I want to delete Ray's airport I don't have to remember to look in ...\Scenery\Global\scenery for those OBJ files.

The only other cause that I can think of for your missing taxi signs could be a missing texture.

Look in ...\FSX\Texture for aptsign.bmp

regards,

Joe

Ok, thanks - I followed his instructions in the read me, and my aptsign.bmp has been in my texture folder..

Would anything in the fsx.cfg cause this? :/

Not that I am aware of.

Do you see taxi signs at default airports?

Can you just extract the files into a sub folder named KCLT within the Addon Scenery folder?  (Don't forget to make a scenery and texture sub folder)

Example...  Addon Scenery/KCLT/Scenery and Texture folders...

| FAA ZMP |
| PPL ASEL |
| Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 32GB 5600 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try that. Which files would go in which folder?

No need for a texture folder.

All .bgl files would go into ...\KCLT\scenery

Remember to only use KCLT_RS.BGL or KCLT_CW_RS.BGL, not both.

Ray's readme mentions an earlier version, make sure you are using the current version from the library.

Also make sure that you have no other addons for that airport.

Some AI programs add afcads and having multiple afcads can cause problems.

Joe
