FSX Steam Released! (80% off sale?)

Recommended Posts

If it works I have found a great, maybe even improved version of FSX (and I assume some things (dll's?) are updated) as programs like FSUIPC seems to have to be updated to work with this version. So I might have bought myself an improved (backup) installation FSX program for only 5 bucks..

Gert, if you install FSX:SE on a 'virgin' computer (i.e., one that does not have FSX already!), then the exact same Registry key as a disk version of FSX is created, and all file names are the same...

...in other words, for all practical purposes it appears to be a normal FSX installation.

Now that said, because of a newer version of SimConnect, and slightly different memory offsets, some products that depend on FSUIPC and/or access to the memory offsets will not work until they are updated, but...

Most payware installers will work properly, and most 'freeware' stuff may be installed without problems.

It is only the case when a side-by-side install of FSX:SE is made that things become a bit more difficult, because all file names (.exe and .cfg) are renamed, and there is a new Registry entry created just for FSX:SE, making new installers that can read the new Registry entry necessary.

Fr. Bill, thank you for your reply and explanation about new memory offsets etc. related to simconnect and FSUIPC. Appreciated much!

Makes more sense to me now.

Regards,

Gert

No problem, Gert. FSUIPC is now available and working! So many more programs should install and work now... :Applause:

I think having both FSXs is a plus for all simmers if they choose . Personally, I want to see where this whole thing plays out...My FS Steam is very smooth, but I don't have any add ons that will load into it...or I don't know how to do that...al v

Does anyone remember what ports have to be forwarded in order to host a session? I've forwarded all ports recommended at portforward.com but nobody is joining my session.

I downloaded FSX Steam which took about 50 minutes, since then steam started the install process on a separate HD.  All was going well until it started 5 of 7 in setup.I am getting  concerned since it has been on 5 of 7 for over 50 minutes. How long should the actual install take?  Not sure how long 5 of 7 should take. I try to "play" but it reverts back to installing  5 of 7.  Is this normal since I am becoming impatient.

Portforward.com is probably showing you the ports for the boxed GameSpy multiplayer.

Now that FSUIPC is working in FS-SE, I hope some folks will utilize its ability to display free VAS to do a side-by-side comparison of VAS consumption in SE vs. the "original" FSX. Hopefully with identical aircraft /scenery /settings.

Apparently when DTG recompiled the new version from the original source code, they corrected a long-standing bug in FSX relating to flushing of the texture cache. My hope is that because of this fix, SE MAY show considerably lower VAS consumption than the original FSX.

Although the PMDG 777, which is known to have OOM issues on many systems, is not currently useable in SE, if VAS consumption is indeed lower in SE with other complex aircraft, it would certainly bode well for the 777 when (and if) it can be made SE-compatable.

I won't have access to my FS computer for a few days, or I'd be testing this right now!

I wonder how the FSX-SE install will 'behave' when installed on a 2nd User Account with FSX-normal installed on the primary account.

I'm not about to risk 'damaging' my FSX install or negate all the effort I have put into moving folders, ect to other drives off my 2 SSD's.

A couple of OrbX regions insited on using the empty OrbX folder in my FSX folder but most installed properly to the drive that is mounted in that folder.

All my 'user-specific' folders for both my user accounts on this machine now live on my D: drive for the main account and the E: drive for me P3D user account. (I have yet to install P3DV2.4 although I  downloaded it a week or so ago.)

If and when I install FSX-SE it will go into the P3D user account or a 3rd new account cloned from one

of the two existing accounts.

I am think that if I send the installed to an account other than my main FSX account it will think it is a m'stand alone' install and use the FSX registery keys. That worries me if they are nor ALL in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER section of the registry, or avoind the "All User" folders.

One other thing that I have seen some alude to but do not have a definitive answer for is the ability to connect to a MP server that is NOT a Steam server....the FSX "Lan", "Connect Direct" feature. It has been said that that is no longer possible.

This capability is extremely important to me as I spend all my 'quality FSX time' flying online via the DTP servers and their TS3 for VOX. Nothing else will suffice for my purposes and FSX-SE would only be useful for 'entertainment' occasionally on the Steam servers.

Try verifying the cache as below, (right click on FSX and go to properties to bring up the window below) if that doesn't work, reboot. If that doesn't work delete the Local game content as below and re-download.
