Does Microsoft still own the exclusive rights to the source code?

Yes.

can we expect more people to perhaps be allowed to distribute FSX, like Burger King or something.

If they wanted to pay MS enough $$ they could.

gizmosellsbunnys, maybe some people just aren't interested in spending even a token amount of money on it just because it doesn't suit their needs.  Nobody ever got a bargain by spending money on something that they don't need, at any price.  Is that ok, with you and a couple of others?

Congratiolations on the most uncluttered household in the history of households and presents that hit the exact need of the recipient in 100 of 100 cases!

Also, congratulations on the most healthy livestyle ever! I know that keeping away from alcohol, tobacco and fast food is tough in this society, so mad props to you, man!

I can chuck DVDs in time gives living space and steam is easy to work with. lots have bought it the future is steam. Microsoft will someday turn off activation servers for fsx and steam purchase is insurance policy for future add ons and equipment.

Guys, remember that FSX: SE won't be $4 just now. It will eventually go on sale again at the next big Steam sale. The cycle repeats.

EDIT: This topic is now being monitored, yay!

Microsoft will someday turn off activation servers for fsx

It's the same server that is used for hundreds of other MS products as well, FYI!

That fiver is still in my account AND I am going to eat and drink tonight!

I am 100% certain that in 50 years from now anyone will still be able to run FSX just like today you can run pretty much any game from the 1970's and 1980's through an emulator. That is IF anyone really really wants to still run FSX in 50 years from now.

Will it be -80% though? Considering that this is a special introductory price set by Dovetail and not a normal sale price, we might not see it at a discount bigger than -50% again.

You have no idea how hard I've looked for my copy of Flight Simulator 2 for IBM. Unfortunately, I don't know where they are. Not that the floppy discs would do anything for me at this point, but atleast I'd get to read the manual. No dice.

Anyway, no doubt people will want to run FSX in 50 years. The last 7 years has been the heyday of flight simming. We're just not fond to admit it because we know it could be better. We get jealous of EA or Ubisoft kind of budgets, when really we have something far more complex and more interesting. I'm pretty sure people will look at the FSX generation as the one that really made flight simming come alive in realism, whether the big corporate giants came along for the ride or not.

What??!!!!   Maybe you were being mock-heroic.

I was looking  at this topic to answers some question about   performance ,  and all I see is a topic about  the 5$ and  people justifying there purchase , so  I ask again  what is the VAS usage  with add on ??  or maybe  am not  in the  right place , thank you

I kept my manuals from Flight Simulator 2 for the Apple//e but I should have kept those floppy's as well. The manuals are great though

Because of the optimization of the scenery cache and how it is loaded and released I have seen a tremendous increase in VAS efficiency. I have a control test where I use OrbxGlobal, Vector, Pilots Mesh, and Cloud9 NA LC, take my Milviz 737-200 from FSDT KLAX over and across the highly detailed KLGB freeware, over the KPOC area and across to the PDZ approach to the freeware KONT runway 26R.

In FSX I could use most sliders to the right in DX10 with Autogen Complexity and Very Dense and Autogen Density at Dense. Cars off of course or it would start the OOM "Ping" on my base turn.

In FSX SE, same addons and ALL Autogen sliders to the right in DX9 (which should technically decrease performance), cars at 50 (which I have never thought of) and I can make the entire flight with no incident and frame rates between 17-20.

I am VERY happy with this program and the optimizations made. Bravo to Dovetail.

My motivation for buying it is to clear some shelf space.

I will put my mint condition FSX deluxe and FSX Acceleration

Box sets on a local buy and sell site and get $20+

for them. I will likely never install FSX SE but

who can predict the future. When P3D V2 was released

there where all kind of doomsday predictions.

So its is a good insurance policy just in case.

especially if you have thousands in addons.

Having said that I read in another thread

straight from the horses mouth that the NGX

is not compatible and from the tone of the post.

It might be some time before it is if ever!

We live in interesting FS times

That's a good one to use the next time someone

ticks you off in a thread. Reply to them,"May you live in

interesting FS times". :LMAO:
