PMDG Products in FSX SE

Recommended Posts

I have been testing FSX SE for couple of hours now and can report that Dovetail have altered some things with the coding. I was able to use DX10 for the first time ever, with all sliders up and frames locked at 30fps, I was getting consistant 29.9 - 30 frames in the stormy weather scenario( overcast ). Smooth running with no stutters. I think we all know that Dovetail will be on the addon bandwagon same as train sim, but whatever they have done with FSX is good indeed. Cant wait to get the PMDG birds in there.

Mike Summerfield.

Are you running it standalone or side by side? Apparently there are problems with Dx10 side by side

FSDT has released installers for the steam edition, but since I don't have this version I've not tested it ;)

Well it's nice to hear some positive and sane comments about FSX SE, elsewhere on the internet I think some people are getting ready to cut their wrists over the Dovetail thing. Kind of ironic really, FSX has been dead for several years, so even if Dovetail did nothing good, we'd be no worse off. Why all the despair now that there is actually a chance of FSX getting a few old bugs fixed and some developer support going forward?

Anyway, I am quite interested in getting the Steam edition because of the claimed improvements under Win 8.1. I never got the boxed version of FSX to work properly after upgrading to 8.1 a year ago. I just got constant crashes so never invested in any add-ons for FSX. It's probably the biggest single reason I now fly in X-Plane but I would like to enjoy the best of both platforms.

I sent Dovetail an email about the Windows 8.1 situation, and got a very quick reply which just said they had made some small changes and believed it now works well on 8.1 - which makes sense as most new PC's are shipping with 8.1 and that's what a lot of Steam customers will be running.

So, I was wondering if anyone else has actually tried it under 8.1 yet? Has anything improved in terms of stability?

Yes.  I bought it on release day just for the heck of it and had it up and running very well under 8.1.  This was also before the FSUIPC update and my Saitek/Logitech equipment worked fine too.

I have it as well, I can tell you that the frame rates are improved. It is stable on Windows 8.1, I did not have CTD error. So I will stick with the steam edition. Now I am just waiting for PMDG to update their installers, then my full enjoyment will be back with the B777-300ER.  ^_^

Hi all

I bought FS SE today and still in the setting up stage. My reason for buying it was simple. I now have a dedicated fsx running perfectly on Win 8.1 with FSUIPC looking after my joystick. Removed all add- ons that are not PMDG so this is my main simulator for "serious flights" on Vatsim and my favourite VA. When I noticed that FS SE was based in the UK I thought...about time... so decided to support it. I now have a second dedicated system for now just flying default aircraft such as the Cessna as I had almost forgotten how to navigate VOR to VOR, and practice what I had learnt in the 10 hours or so that I have had as real life lessons before the cost put an end to that. I have fsx installed in the F drive Program files X86 and installed FS SE on F drive Program files. So they sit on the same machine but in different root folders. So far they are playing nicely. I also updated FSUIPC and when I installed the latest version it recognised both versions and seems to have installed individually. because both set ups are different.

Time will tell if this is a wise move but for £10 I am happy with the purchase.

Kind Regards, and happy xmas to all that entertain us on here all year round.

So we will be able to download the new installers?

Also will we be eligible for a free install on steam? So we don't have to mess with our current FSX install.

FSX Steam version without PMDG planes- a waste of time! ;) When will you release the updated installers for NGX and the 777? Can't wait for it. Thx. :)

The NGX and 777 ARE NOT YET COMPATIBLE with Steam FSX. There are no work-arounds that can be implemented by users to make them compatible.

It's not because Steam Itself is "blocking" anything, it's because <<<INVALID CONJECTURE REMOVED BY MODERATOR SO IT DOESN'T GROW ROOTS>>>

For what it's worth, older PMDG FSX titles - specifically the MD-11 and 747-400 WILL install and run under FSX-SE, because   <<<MORE INVALID CONJECTURE REMOVED BY MODERATR>>>

As I understand it that would mean that we will still be out of luck if we have a boxed version

Not necessarily. The NGX or 777 will install into a standalone FSX-SE system insofar as the installer will create the necessary folders and install the various files - they just won't load properly when trying to select the aircraft. <<<INVALID CONJECTURE REMOVED MY MODERATOR SO IT DOESN'T GROW ROOTS - SORRY>>

Though this does point out a big disadvantage of buying a boxed version of an add-on, as opposed to a download version.

So I suppose it is possible that PMDG could produce a patch file to update the incompatible DLLs and thus make the aircraft work - much like the way that a service pack can update an existing installation.

Can they confirm if this is going to happen ?
