No CD needed... when?

Recommended Posts

I have the physical version and use Daemon Tools Lite to create a virtual drive and no longer need to leave the CD in the actual drive.

I'm curious if the Steam version will let you play if you are offline (i.e. internet goes down, Steam goes down, etc).  I know there is an offline mode for some games in Steam, but does it work for X-Plane?  Being connected to Steam would be a form of verification that you own the game and would replace having the physical media

Hey there,

I think that's up to the developer. My son uses Steam a lot and I just asked him - he said he can games that don't rely on online play any time, even when Steam isn't connected.

Knowing Austin, XP will probably be different. I'd like to hear from someone running the Steam version.

X-Plane will run a few days without the CD in the drive. So it's necessary to insert it once a week or so. I'm not sure about the steam version, but I have had a few steam games in the past that won't run without the Internet.

Oh - good to know. I'll try that! Thanks.
