The new Flight Simulator X - for XBox 360 (???)

Featured Replies

And how much is all this going to cost? I sent a good amount of money upgrading my PC. Will this new Xbox cost like 200 more dollars? And what about the controler situation? I used to have the game "European Air War" for the PC and I tried it one day with a gamepad, I could not fly good with a gamepad.

Ah, I think they both share DirectX? Plug your usb joystick into your xbox and I think the buttons/axis will work. .. kinda.I hope so, I have purchased two USB gamepads to plug into my pc for additional buattons and axis for a project. Right now we have THREE joysticks and one set of gameport ruddder pedal and things are all working under the control of DirectX w/o problem. (away from home on holiday enjoying twin grandbabies) I bet the inverse might just work. Can work perfect if tweaked by MS.Regards,BobShttp://s95171098.onlinehome.us/junk/aopa.jpgSeems the rage to talk about the "size and speed" of each others computer. Beat this if you can for solving novel/unique problem anywhere in the cosmos. ..Have K&E and know how to use it!(probably need to be over 45 to know what a K&E is :-)

I'm not into gaming near enough to even justify buying a console, even if it's a revolution in simming opportunities. It could look and run perfect, but I'd never be willing to spend the kind of money just for FS. At least the PC and add-on titles are affordable, and the PC serves many purposes, unlike a several hundred dollar console.

I agree with everything that has been posted. It would be a big mistake for them to make the next version of FS strictly for XBOX 360. The biggest three reasons:1) If there's a major bug with the release, the only way for them to "patch" it would be if the game was installed on the hard drive AND the user has a high-speed connection to the Internet. Imagine the headache if NO part of the game is installed on the HD and a patch is required.2) They will definitely lose a chunk of money because not everyone can afford to buy both an XBOX 360 AND a new FS.3) If you're married (or living with a significant other), imagine what happens if your SO wants to watch TV (if you only have one TV). At least if the FS is on the PC, your SO can watch TV. You may not be able to convince him/her to go play on the PC while you're flying a 6-hour flight :) on the XBOX.

X-box - for games... Flight simulation - PC's only.... Their is a difference between "games" and simulators...

If you're married, and you're home together, and your SO is watching TV and spending time alone while you do a six hour flight alone on the computer in another room, you've already got problems.

Seems to me someone said a long time ago...consoles for flight games...word processors and business applications - PC's only...there is a difference between business applications and flight games.

The Xbox is not striving to be a "several hundred dollar console". It's striving to be the heart of your home interactive entertainment center. Watch...soon you will have one.

Did you ever notice that so many people say that a PC is so versatile and that's how they justify having one? Yet as versatile as it is the only reason they keep upgrading it is to play a flight game...ooops...er...simulation?

MS better not do something stupid like put FS only on Xbox. I will buy Xbox360, but not to use FS. If this happens, I'm staying with FS9.

Don't worry. MS never does anything stupid. They are out to be the leaders in the market of home entertainment/internet/interactive video...and will make sure each step is carefully thought out. If making FS exclusive on the Xbox "computer" proves to be a step in the right (profitable) direction in reaching that goal, then they'll do that and leave you to play on your computer w/ FS9.

"If you're married, and you're home together, and your SO iswatching TV and spending time alone while you do a six hourflight alone on the computer in another room, you've alreadygot problems."Not really, it's called personal time. My girlfriend has things that she does by herself and we have things we do together.I don't care for consoles, have a PS2 and an XBOX collecting dust as I don't care for the controllers and usually the graphics are not up to par. While the new XBOX is a huge step up from them, I have a really nice setup with 2 22inch Sonys and I am not going to buy a HD TV (what little TV I watch is on my PC) usually just because MS is now catering to the console lovers, yeeeech! I'll stick with FS9 also then.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International

No worries. MS will not abandon the PC market. After all, if not for FS, and other hi-tech games (but nothing pushes a computer faster to the junk heap than MSFS) what other reason is there for people to upgrade the personal home computer? I know there are people who use their computer for high end graphics in business, but most home computers are upgraded for entertainment purposes. It doesn't take a high end video card and 8 megs of RAM to run a word processor, nor other business apps for that matter.I don't think the original poster said anything about FS being exclusive on the XBox did he/she? Just that it was one of the games...ooops...er...simulations slated for it. It still might not even come out for the XBox 360.Glad to hear you and your SO are keeping it together yet still finding "alone" time. That's what makes it all work out in the end. That and a HUGE amount of trust. Keep it up!

Flight Simulator X and FS10 could be two different animals?allen:-bigangel

Yeah, the feature I want is streaming media from my PC -- I already have a network cable connecting my XBOX and PC, it may as well work for its keep. MS did talk about this for the current Xbox, but I'll upgrade if that's what it takes.I've been thinking about content -- in a way, XBOX already has a system in place which would suit the masses much better than the current method of web libraries etc -- XBox Live. I can't see Microsoft giving everyone access to the Live network, but I can see 'officially licensed' content providers. If you produce an addon, you could either deal with Microsoft directly, or deal with one of the official providers. This opens up the whole system to more local content -- whether it be supplied by Live download or on DVD, it is a way to reach the other side of the sim market -- i.e. not currently downloading everything in sight.
