REX Soft (Fluffy) Cloud Analysis

Recommended Posts

Skypilot likes to try new stuff and we just noticed a rare new REX product called Soft Clouds.  BTW, we at Skypilot prefer to call this product Fluffy Clouds because that is what our kids call them.

The best way to get an initial impression of what Soft Clouds does is to load the ORBX Weather Set 3.   What becomes supremely different is how inter-cloud formations are depicted.  IOW a whole lot of blending is going on.  This effect is mostly realistic and reassuring.  So the product wins one point for realism.

In fact that is the whole point for Soft and Fluffy Clouds - Realism without introspection.

Phase 2 of our evaluation was to emulate how weather would be depicted realtime.  Alt-Tabbing back to FSXAssist, adding the ASN.exe app and clicking running FSXAssist.  Ah - now FSX looks much different.

Here we see the primary feature of Soft Clouds - layer blending.   This is what is new and significant and why we class REX Soft Clouds as an overall pretty sweet product.

Performance +4 As usual SkyPilot testers noted a high fps when using FSXAssist and REX Products.

Class +4 REX Quality product.

Realism +5 Enhances Wx rendering realism.

Check out REX Soft Clouds.

Were there supposed to be pictures?

This may give a visual to how blending is achieved:
