Strange lights near planes that disappear when I get closer

Recommended Posts

Strange lights near planes that disappear when I get closer. What is causing this? I also saw it with a bare bones setup of FSX.

FSX SP2, no traffic add-ons used, no airport add-ons used, other than Orbx Global:

Is it the same time of day and does it do it at diiferent airports? Does it also do this, say early morning after sunrise or early evening?

Secret UFO planes

Lol I think it's a shader problem. Could be one of the lights on the aircraft that glitches when out of the default render distance.

I don't know any fix though...

How can I be the only who has seen this both on this computer and 2 completely different computers, all with a bare bones FSX?

After further testing It seems to be a landing lights issue, I can clearly see it when I fly at night, triangular cones in front of the planes. They turn off when I get close, plus they seem to be way too high.

I know exactly what you're talking about this is an issue with FSX on large montors and it's still there in FSX Steam Edition.  The PAPI lights and landing lights on aircraft are ridiculously bright, lol.  I'm certain that Nick Needham had a fix for this.  If you search on AVSIM for the Nick Needham light fix or google it I'm sure it's stil out there somewhere.

I already solved the issue with the bright lights, it was related to REX 4, but the biggest problem remains; why do they turn off when I get closer?

I even completely unistalled FSX and only installed FSX + SP1 & SP2, but the issue remains (on modern hardware), every time I get closer these lights turn off and stay off. The closest lights also turn off when I zoom in.

A lot more people should have this issue when they only have FSX + SP1 & SP2 installed and nothing else.

Note: all autogen settings were at lowest settings for this screenshot to make the issue better visible.

I also have FSX with Sp1 and SP2 and have never seen this problem from a distance or up close.

No sweat, I experience this occasionally. To be honest, it's one of FSX's many little oddities. I don't lose any sleep about it, any more than I do with the odd popping cloud or blurry, I just get on with flying

Thanks guys!

Temporarily switching to a bare bones FSX for testing purposes and back to the original FSX is just a piece of cake when you know how to do it and you have a backup, it's just a matter of taking a shower and it's done. We do a lot of this kind of scripting in our IT department.

Anyway, thanks for the assumption that I would spend like 3 days on setting up FSX + add-ons and do something as ludicrous as removing it all just because of a light issue, I appreciate it.
