A CTD after preparing PMDG 777 for a flight/

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow simmers,

as the title says, I get a CTD after around 20 mins on ground with PMDG 777. It seems I get this CTD when using AI Traffic because without it everything worked fine.

Below is the AppCrashView Report.

Thank you in advance for your help,

It seems I get this CTD when using AI Traffic because without it everything worked fine.

According to the AVSIM CTD Guide, page 9:

AI_Player.dll - The faulting module was the ai_player.dll which is the module that controls your AI (a commercial AI program or the default).

  • Could be something wrong with an AI model or object. If you have MyTrafficX, you can disable AI in the Scenery Library to see if this fixes the problem.  If so, then this is the problem.  If you have another AI program installed, then disable that program to see if the program is causing your crashes.
  • Problem occurs occasionally in the Seattle area with FTX/Orbx Pacific Northwest. This may have been fixed by now but check the FTX/Orbx forums and search for AI_Player.
  • Caused by freeware airports in the area that has static aircraft or their own AI aircraft and flight plans. Disable the add-on airport and see if problem is gone. If you have any FSDT, Flight Beam airports, do not disable them. They are not the problem.
  • AI programs like MyTrafficX has AFCAD's for hundreds, maybe thousands of airports in the MyTraffic/Scenery folder. Anyone of these could be the cause of the ai_player crash. In this case, make sure you have the latest version of your AI program installed.

If you had one of the AI schedules posted on the developer's website, then I would uninstall and reinstall or do a repair install.  The schedule that comes with the program works great as far as I can see.  If you disabled My Traffic X in the Scenery Library, then that disables all of the AFCAD's that come with My Traffic X so that the AI can takeoff and land properly.  This is why I recommend My Traffic X be located just above Propeller Objects in your Scenery Library.  Then, if you install any commercial airports, they will be located above that and will trump out the My Traffic X AFCAD for that airport.  As I recall the developer recommends you disable any AFCAD's which have been replaced by a commercial airport so there will be no conflicts.  You do that by opening MyTraffic\Scenery in the FSX main folder and renaming the appropriate AFCAD by placing a .original at the end of the AFCAD.  For instance, BR2_KORD.BGL.original.  Or, you can move it to a temporary directory on your HD or delete it.  These AFCAD's contain many objects and some may not be found when called by FSX to render.

I see you have the uiautomationcore.dll in your main fsx folder.  It really is not needed unless you are having menu crashes.  If you keep it there, make sure it is the proper version as stated in the AVSIM CTD Guide.

I see nothing else wrong with your setup.  I think the recommendations above should fix this problem.

Hello Jim,

I'm not sure if I fully understood all the above. I disabled My Traffic from the Scenery Library, then I fired FSX and I didn't have AITraffic. I enabled back My Traffic from Scenery Library and I had again CTD after 20 mins.

Opening MyTraffic\Scenery folder there are many AFCADs and I have no idea which AFCAD should I rename or delete.

Thank you for your help

Hello Jim,

Thank you for your help

Once I had the same type of crash.  I ran Process Monitor and just monitored FSX and, as soon as I got the crash I wrote down the time then closed Process Monitor.  I then opened the Process Monitor log and looked at was was being loaded at the time of the crash.  It showed me it was My Traffic X.  I uninstalled MyTrafficX and then reinstalled it to version 5.4b (5.4c evidently has a bug).  No more crashes.  What I found out later as others were getting the same type of crash was one of the AI schedules (2012 or 2013 schedule) posted on the developer's website was causing the crash.  Some experts were saying an AI flight was trying to fly a flightplan, couldn't find the AI flightplan, so FSX froze or crashed.  So when I reinstalled MyTrafficX, I just installed the schedule that comes with the program.  So, if any of this sounds familiar to you, then you are probably having the same problem.  The MyTrafficX entry in the Scenery Library is only calling airports for the AI to take off and land.  Some have found objects in some of the AFCAD's are causing crashes.  It's all on the MyTrafficX forums.  The developer does not think that's the problem as he cannot replicate it.  I think there's a hotfix somewhere but it only fixed a couple of individuals problems.  My fix was to uninstall MyTrafficX and reinstall it to version 5.4b.

What I'm trying to say is that if you have a commercial airport, say Chicago KORD, that will normally be located near the top of the Scenery Library.  Okay, MyTrafficX has an airport too in the MyTrafficX folder that loads first.  There may be a conflict with some of the scenery objects for the airport or surrounding airports.  If you have a commercial airport, then you should edit the MyTrafficX/Scenery AFCAD to make sure it does not load. This is all explained in the AVSIM CTD Guide.

I did not have to edit anything in the MyTrafficX/Scenery folder when I uninstalled 5.4c and reinstalled 5.4b.  You have narrowed your problem down to MyTrafficX.  The only option you have is to uninstall it and then reinstall the 5.4b version.  Go Fly.

My story is a simpler one. I just installed it from the CD without touching any of the schedules and my version is V5.3b. How is that possible? I bought it 2 weeks ago!

You probably are eligible for the upgrade to 5.4b and c.  This might be the problem you are having too.  An older version.  The CD versions are rare and usually contain old versions as most people download the latest.  I do know in his forums he has a thread entitled something like update to 5.4b.  Looks like you'll have to go to his website and register and find out if you can get an updated CD or be able to download an update.

Jim,

here I am again!  . This time my question is not a CTD question but about MyTraffic. I ask you here because we have the same Traffic programm.

Where MyTraffic supposed to be on the Scenery Library?

Placing it at the bottom of the list, all airplanes look alighned with the proper Parking Positions and correct Stands numbers. The contrary happens when I place MyTraffic on top of the list. Airplanes are misalighned on the Parking Positions and the Parking Stands numbers are not real or not all of them according to the airport charts.

What I do wrong?

You never want it at the highest priority.  It should be just above Propeller Objects.  Anything above that will load AFTER MyTrafficX so it won't interfere with any commercial airport addons you might have.  Some other scenery, like Orbx/FTX also include airport AFCADS so you want to make sure your commercial programs have priority over MyTrafficX.
