2015 Initial Practice

Recommended Posts

It started out with joy in mind, the day after Christmas. I looked at the winds aloft and said to myself - self, "With these winds it would be a good idea take up the 'ol "H" up and see if I could bust a 500 knot run over 600 miles, besides it's been almost a year since she's been handled." I had 130 knot tail winds at times! There are some huge troughs and ridges over Earth right now that lead to substantial winds aloft!

The next day started, I looked at the weather again - Phenomenal! It came into mind to take some of the "primaries" up for a haul, just to get some stick time and take 'em wherever the winds take me. I followed the winds right, and of all places, they took me to Sochi! It's weird cuz 3 weeks after the RTWR '14 I did a haul back home from there. Guess I be going back.

Even my Co-Pilot commented on the winds -

Woof Woof, Wimper, Woof, Whine, Woof, Wimper, Wimper, Wimper, Drool.

Translated it equals - "Holy Crap! Do those winds look good or what? Now let me outside!"

Didn't bust the 500 kt avg... But I did pass a couple of aluminum, pressurized, kerosene powered, mini-sausages on the way.

The flight was pretty good until 1/3 way. I had the tanks mis-figured and suddenly the #1 went out. Fine, it stayed in the air. The F-7F didn't have a fuel control panel. ( at least i do not have one ) Opened up FSUIPC and quickly configured a "Select all" for both engines and got #1 back running. Not more than a minute later both engines went out! Looked for a place to land, trimmed it out for a glide that would keep it from stalling then looked for carb heat.. Found it, waited just a few moments and they roared back to life.. Whew!

This flight I did a right hook to get the required winds in order to get the range necessary. Well over the 680 no wind range. Barely made it, it required a little throttle back & leaning too.

It's lonely all alone over the northern Atlantic -

Once again, hard to tell if it's day or night. I swear the Sun came up over the horizon, went down, then came back up again.

The baton is free @ URSS (Sochi). I will follow up on the previous legs necessary to get here.  All in all, not the fastest leg there ever could be, had to hold back on the go-go juice just to  make it.

Usually we do the previous years race backwards until a group online session is created. Go where ever you like, practice is practice wherever you may do it. B)

If you want to go backwards here are the first few legs..

URSS - UKFF

UKFF - LOWI (jet)

LOWI - LSZS ( very short ~75 nm)  B)

LSZS - LEVC

LEVC - GMTT

GMTT - GMMH (jet)

GMHH - GVAC

TJ... some fixes (make sure to check):

•Settings > Customize > Weather > Check "Download winds aloft data with real-world weather"

•Settings > Customize > Weather > Uncheck "Disable turbulence and thermal effects on aircraft"

•Settings > Realism > Uncheck "Allow collisions with other aircraft" - we don't want any "accidents" to occur because of that (or the questions and explanations that will follow  :P  ).

•Settings > Realism > Click your mouse on the  "Crash tolerance" slider and verify it is arrowed over Full Right.  That is my best guess atm.
