Freeware Weather Engine

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of any decent freeware weather engines?  I can find freeware weather textures relatively easily but I need a program to provide real world weather for free.  Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

Try FSXWX (http://www.plane-pics.de/fsxwx/home.htm) or FSrealWX (http://www.fsrealwx.net/). On my system FSXWX is more stable and seems to give more realistic weather inputs into FSX.

+1 for FSRealWX Lite - I've been using it for a while and find it pretty good.

Using FSRealWX too but apparently only their old version is free?
Their site is really confusing

Shoudln´t. It´s freeware. I used that one too, very easy to use and extremely good. Stepped up to ASN though...

I thought the same thing. The Banner says "21 Day Free Trial - Unregistered" or something like that, but it never changes. It's free, and the Pro interface is much cleaner than the Lite version.

I've been running mine for months and I've never had to pay anything for it. I guess I should donate though.

I can't find the download link to the V2 version.. only gives me v1.07.1552

Or do you need to login to see the Pro V2 version?

Thanks all for your advice - I'll bear this in mind and try all suggestions when I get a chance and see which one works best for me :)

Another good one is FSMETAR. The original site has long gone. But one can still download it from the archives.

http://web.archive.org/web/20120323061633/http://personal.telefonica.terra.es/web/fsmetar/

It does a good job at interpreting the weather without all the baggage of the payware weather engines. If you try it out set it up to download from vatsim as their metars are up to date compared to Noaa etc.

You should also combine it with some decent clouds vis. Pablo Diaz on avsim

FSXWX is definitely my choice right now :

Smooth, very plausible in rendering RWW IMO ...

I am using it with FSX SE and Aerowinx PSX + Visual PSX. When flying PSX in RW Weather mode, I choose not to inject weather into FSX SE from it but rather through FSXWX and I am really satisfied with the effects, no stuttering, very very plausible!

I've used FSXWX as well and was quite impressed. Here's a link since I suspect most folks assume FSXWX and FSRealWX are the same thing which they are not.
