Defiant CoPilot

Recommended Posts

Team,

I was hoping you could shed some light on the mechanism used to prevent accidental commands.  Specifically, I only have ONE anomaly left to overcome with MCE (it truly is the BEST FS addon you can buy).  On occasion, the CoPilot will not perform a commanded task; he simply says "professions don't do that."  I assume methods are in place to prevent catastrophic commands.  However, is it possible to lighten these restrictions?  To that end, can you allow the copilot to turn on/off lights when the plane is on the ground.  Sometimes, upon landing, my CP will not turn off the strobe and/or landing lights.  I assume a conditional statement exist based on a speed variable that prevents my command from being carried out?

That’s not one of those protections against accidental speech reco. It’s rather trying to mimic real world operation, something about good airmanship.

As soon as “takeoff phase” is detected, FO will refuse to fiddle with switches until you are airborne.

Some commands related to engine power control will be carried out though.

On takeoff, pilot flying should have one hand on the controls and another on the throttles. PNF should just monitor and make call-outs. Even when engine fire happens beyond V1, usually only action acceptable is to silence the horn and wait until 400 feet airborne before starting any fire drill, let alone dialling frequencies and such. This applies to just about any aircraft type.

If you are faced with this scenario again, and assuming you aren’t well into the takeoff roll, reduce power to idle and ask him to handle whatever you want before applying takeoff power again.
