FSXSE terrain/g3d.dll related crashes

Featured Replies

I do not really know why some of you persist in putting yourselves through this nonsense that used to be called FSX-MS and is now FSX-SE?

After a series of CTDs or OOMs with both platforms, I gave up. I migrated to Prepar3D, and now I'm enjoying what I like doing best with this hobby---flying tuneliners emulating long-haul real-world routes and not having to put up with those CTDs, or OOMs any more.

I should have followed Rich's lead a long while back.

Agreed. P3D has been a real pleasure and my goto desktop sim platform. I still occasionally sim on a notebook however so FSX-SE has some value to me (notebook sports an old desktop class I7 960 and 480M). I will be keeping and eye to Dovetail for stability enhancements and perhaps some augmentation of features down the road.

Rick, Hi

If STEAM solves terrain/g3d.dll related crashes. This will be a giant step  forward for all of us.

Ahmet, I hear you, man but 1s Q is If.2nd Q is when? Meantime do we put up CTDs? Not for me. I'd rather be flying.

Hmm that's weird.

I had not a single terrain or g3d.dll error since using FSX-SE nor either a OOM.

And i fly really a lot online on Vatsim with high-end addons like MJC Q400, PMDG 777 etc.

The only big difference what i have to probably all of you guys is, i have a AMD Graphic card.

Dovetail has really done something to the Sim, FSX never performed that good on a AMD Card

Every session that lasts 4 hours and 30 minutes crashes at 4:30 mark +/- a few minutes.

It's so predictable now. I know exactly when to save. With saved panel states, I really don't have an issue with this other than it being a nuisance.

You do know the latest fsuipc.dll released for fsx-se, traps most g3d.dll errors and stops the crash(es). The terrain.dll is usually fixed with lower settings, especially autogen settings. There is absolutely no way Dovetail could fix this problem as it could not be fixed for FSX too (except for the fsuipc.dll utility trappng the error..

Oh yes of course, thanks for helping me to remember :D
I actually waited on the PMDG 777 release, and at that time was already a good working version of FSUIPC out.
But anyway, Dovetail has a lot changed because i do not need anymore the atiumdag.dll, which was a must have, otherwise you have black-screen on a AMD Card. As well i don't need anymore the shader 3.0 mod, which was too necessary otherwise you have bad frames in clouds with a AMD Card.

I had some problems on the beginning, but i solved them by checking my C++ redistributable installs.
I forgot to install C++ 2005, after doing that FSX-SE never crashed again.

I can not complain, FSX-SE runs much better then my old FSX, and this is the same Computer and Windows.

So I tried the open beta, and I flew a route that gave me a terrain.dll crash 100% everytime around the 4 1/2 hour mark. Well I did the whole 7 hour flight from EGCC-KEWR and I didn't get a crash.

Is the issue fixed? I think so!?

So just to make sure I'm current, the 777 and Buses still aren't working w/ the beta?

You are not running the open beta release. The version you are running has the terrain.dll bug.
