787 Development possibly?

Hello to the PMDG team!

Hope you all had a great holiday! I fly the 737 and 777 series almost exclusively because I think they are the most realistic airframes by far available for FSX. I was wounding if you are contemplating creating a 787- I think that would be a great transition for many of us pilots, especially those getting into the next generation of commercial aircraft. Do you ever consider crowdsourcing development projects? I see a lot of software companies doing that now as it offsets the costs up front and gives you an idea of potential demand. I'd be willing to throw ya $100.00 for a 787 that's comparable to the 737 NGX!

Thank you for all of your hard work and support to your community!

While there indeed is a 787 in development by QW right now and PMDG still have a lot of products in the pipe for the near...well let's be honest...far future, I doubt that we can expect a 787 from PMDG anytime soon. BUT - I think it would be logical and definitely profitable for them to build one, given the fact they already have a 777, since the 787 is somewhat similar to the 777 and is even flown with one TR in the RW by some carriers.

Of course this is only my opinion and there hasn't been any official statement but then again, they didn't say NO.

Personally I don't see a single reason why they wouldn't develop a 787 in the future as it is Boeing's latest product.

The QW one is taking forever to come out.

This is true. I could never figure out why they started development on their 737 when the 78 is still in development.

Their 737 was originally from Enigmasim, they didn't make it from scratch since they joined QW. (i think)

Also, they are working on the 787/737 on their free time, not like PMDG does.

Why is it so hard to believe that there are multiple teams working within a development group? Be it PMDG, QW or even CS, It would be illogical, and very counterproductive to not use this development strategy, since some guys would be sitting on their hands, waiting for others to finish.

Starting up the 737 development alongside the 787 development was a very logical thing to do, especially since a lot of the groundwork had already been done by Enigmasim.

On the timeline thing: do you have experience in developing add-ons? If not, I don't think you're qualified to say that "it takes forever". Developing an add-on entails a lot more than just the pretty visuals you see...

There are operational similarities but the systems behind the panels are very different. Not that much in common at the depth PMDG simulate.

They haven't said they wouldn't, they probably would very much like to make it. But I think any PMDG 787 release is a long way away in the future.

Yeah, most of the 787 systems are electrical...even the engine start is electrical but yeah, I agree it's still very far down the road if it ever happens. Maybe that's even a good thing since it provides more time for the plane to become more popular in the RW and to be introduced to new operators around the globe.

Why should that matter? As a consumer, my viewpoint is that it is taking forever. I'm not a developer, so why would I look at it from their perspective?

It's taking a perfectly acceptable amount of time. They just announced it a bit earlier than is typical, which is why it would seem to be taking so long. They covered this in one of their press releases. You have to consider the insane amount of work that goes into recreating a commercial airliner. Oh, and doing it well, too.

Considering QualityWings sell to consumers and PMDG sells to consumers and airlines, it would be absolutely logical for PMDG to do the 787 as well, given the commercial potential of a new and very popular airliner.

Now, that doesn't mean they will do it, and it also doesn't mean it will be available to the public if they do.

That's your opinion, it's not a definite statement, much like mine was.

If you read their 3Q2014 update, you'll see what I'm talking about.

Have you by any chance ever developed or worked on the development team of an addon aircraft?
