Navigraph versus NavData Pro

Hello,

 

My current subscription of Navigraph has come to an end and I have to renew it.

Since I have a choice between Navigraph and NavData Pro I was wondering which of the two is more complete.

 

I have noticed quite a bit of difference in price between the two programs and so I wonder if that difference is reflected in the data they present.

NavData Pro uses the LIDO database by Lufthansa Systems. The exact same database is in operation in most EFB interfaces used in the real world. On the other hand, Navigraph is a project maintained by Navigraph for flight simulation uses. Obviously NavDataPro is technically going to be better because it is used in the real world but I really doubt you will notice any differences to a great degree.

Navigraph originally derived their core data from public domain sources, but now obtain their master data from Jeppesen, which is also a major supplier of real-world FMS databases. I think that the two products are comparable in terms of the accuracy and completeness of their products.

 

I have used both products, but was kind of soured on NavDataPro, because for a long time, they had internal formatting errors in their databases for both the Eaglesoft Citation X and FeelThere EMB/ERJ series that made it impossible to differentiate between precision vs. non-precision approaches for specific runways. They finally fixed the problem, but I got tired of waiting, and settled on Navigraph as my supplier, as their Eaglesoft and FeelThere databases always worked with no issues.

 

NavDataPro was the first to offer a standalone database manager for updating multiple add-ons at once, but Navigraph matched that with a manager program of their own, which IMO, has better functionality, plus Navigraph still offers the option of downloading individual databases as zip files for manual installation, which, for some users with customized or non-standard installations can be a better choice.

 

Also, I believe that Navigraph has more complete support for third-party add-ons for the X-Plane 10 platform.

I've used both and agree with Jim Barrett's assessment.  Settled on Navigraph as I'm more familiar with Jeppesen products.

Navigraph supports the iFly aircraft better than does NavdataPro.  The iFly 737 is capable of using RF data and handling multiple ILS per runway data (EDDF among others), which is included in the Navigraph data, but not the NavdataPro set.

As the guy who coded the Eaglesoft Citation X v2, I'm intimately familiar with the core database requirements for the addon. I tested the Navdata Pro version and found it to be very inaccurate with regards to data layout and format that is expected by the addon's software. Because of issues I know of in their data design... neither I nor Eaglesoft recommend the use of Navdata Pro with the Eaglesoft Citation X v2.

 

As for base data accuracy... there are exactly two companies that provide access to the raw ARINC data... Jeppesen and Lufthansa. They get their data from the same sourcesand massage it into a commercial product.

I just had to make the same decision and went with Navigraph, they support more aircraft FMC's and I'm used to Jeppesen :)  Been wonderful for use with AI Controller.  Navigraph also fixed 1 minor bug in the data that I found with Jan 8th's 1501 cycle release which I'm about to download and add to my system. :)

do you get charts with Navigraph if you choose the FMS cycle or do you have to get a seperate subscription?  I've been using NavDataPro but my subscription has run out as well... I liked how easily it integrated into AvilaSoft EFB....

Charts are a separate subscription that is available via a desktop or web client from any device that supports a browser.  Caveat - the charts are typically a bit out of phase since they are updated quarterly.  I've never found this to be a major problem however.  The easy availability of data from all over the world more than makes up for the occasional discrepancy.  Navigraph also offers worldwide enroute charts.
