May 22, 200521 yr That's what I'm talking about, Bert. Looking good. I prefer to use the 530 anyway. My planes are starting to get the "Bert" touch, first with your PMDG 1900C Reality XP refit and now this. I'm looking forward to using your SF260 refit when it is ready.TonyEdit: I do have mixed feelings about giving up some of the default radios. They sure look good after the update. Still, I am leaning towards the bigger GPS.Tony
May 22, 200521 yr I've been checking the Avsim site just for this announcement for the last two months (or so it seem about that long) and for the first time yesterday and today I don't actually go into the site, and the upgrade is announced!Anyway, I'm downloading the update now and am eagerly awaiting flying this baby! Thanks Rob and the team!!James
May 22, 200521 yr The only thing possibly better than the new SF260 is the customer service. Emailed Rob with an installation issue. Rob solved the matter literally within minutes. Nice one!
May 22, 200521 yr The way I've implemented the retrofit, you get to choose... some paints with the standard cockpit, some with the GNS530, so you do not have to give up anything.Unfortunately, the instrument backlighting is not a good fit, and I'm in touch with Rob Young to see if something can be done about it. When it is all finished, I'll post it at the Reality-XP site. If you would like to try the solution "as is", send an e-mail to: pieke at sympatico.ca Bert
May 22, 200521 yr >The only thing possibly better than the new SF260 is the>customer service. Emailed Rob with an installation issue. >Rob solved the matter literally within minutes. Nice one!Well I'd have to add a hearty "Amen" to that... he promptly and graciously resolved an issue I had as well. So much so I went back and bought their Spitfire... even thinking about the Decathlon. haha!I'm impressed with their product and their service. They've earned my admiration and respect.
May 22, 200521 yr HelloThe decathlon and the scout are great, i bought the dec first and got a discount on the scout dont know if this is still the case.
May 22, 200521 yr Yeah, all the RA planes are great. You'll likely find though that it's not very easy to enjoy the VCs in the scout and deke after getting used to the Spitfire and now the 260. :) Don't get me wrong - by "old" standards the VC's are very nice. But theres a new standard now... :)
May 22, 200521 yr >Good point... so how long for the Scout upgrade :>As to the Scout & Decathlon cockpits, I'm actually am happy using both the 2D and virtual cabins depending on mood. The 2D panels are short in height, and allow some added peripheral vision to the sides.Unlike the Spitfire and SF260 with clear bubble canopies, I sometimes get "annoyed" with the door corner post's of virtual cockpits. They sometimes seem too wide dimensionally and out of place; although I can't explain exactly why. I just have to assume it's a limitation of head and eye movement while looking at a 2D monitor.Since I do use those two high wing planes with 2D cockpits at least 50% of the time, I don't really care if they get the special VC upgrade. But that's my opinion. As to the Marchetti and myself, it's been 99% virtual cockpit ever since it originally was released. It has the perfect wide angle view to really make it appear as though your actually in flight. I get a lot more fun out of takeoffs, landings, and pattern work with a better view "bubble". Would not trade that view for an in your face 2D.......ever!L.Adamson
May 22, 200521 yr Well, to be honest I think the guys should move on to new projects now. Afaic, the 260 upgrade was a total bonus - not something I really ever held out much hope for. I don't expect we'll be seeing upgrades for the other two planes (not that it wouldn't be a nifty thing if they did of course). Anyway, like Ladamson says, the Scout and Deke are both completely useable as is since they have great 2D panels and decent VCs (well, actually great VCs but for the guage update rates).
May 22, 200521 yr Hi..Just upgraded my FS 260 to the 2005 version. Like most I agree this update is an excellent upgrade..The VC guages are clear and crisp and i enjoy the real view feature when flying in VC mode. The config wizard gives you different options and the new liveries are nice. I needed support in upgrading because of my neglect and support was received very quicly and satisfactorily.I've purchased many addons and without question Realairsimulations is top notch in all aspects...Thanks...TH
May 22, 200521 yr If you do not mind cheating a bit, I found that you can improve the VC gauge update rates in the Scout quite a bit by deleting VC window 4,5,6,7,8,9.Since each color paint has it's own panel folder, you can simply pick one for testing and comment out the VCockpit windows greater than 03.This at your own risk :-) Back up the panel.cfg file first! Bert

Even on Saturday night, US Central time!BTW, the plane is great! Not being a fan of aerobatics, I thought I'd not fly it that often, boy I was wrong! It's great for VFR cruising and IFR!Many thanksMarcelo
