Wheel effects on rain

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I observed that there aren’t wheel effects on rain when I flight PMDG JS4100, but in PMDG777 they are. Checked in the same weather conditions and the same airport and runway.

Is it possible?

Maybe it depends on aircraft weight? :)

Hi Lucas,

Effects selection is indeed controlled by the aircraft weight. We do not own the JS4100 internally but we have an idea of what the problem could be.

In the aircraft.cfg file, the line "WheelWetSpray=" and "WheelSnowSpray=" in the [EFFECTS] section might be set to "fx_dummy" or something else. Removing this line and running the PrecipitFX installer again should fix the issue.

Let me know if it worked for you!

Keven,

should I remove only "fx_dummy" or entire "WheelWetSpray=fx_dummy" (and "WheelSnowSpray=fx_dummy") entries?

Remove the entire lines:

WheelWetSpray=fx_dummy

WheelSnowSpray=fx_dummy

You might also want to remove those lines if they are present, they are for engine blast in rain and snow:

WetEngineWash=fx_dummy

SnowEngineWash=fx_dummy

Ok, after that the only thing I should do is "Modify/Rescan for a new Aircraft" or completely uninstall and reinstall PrecipitFX?

"Modify/Rescan for a new Aircraft" should do the trick!

Hi Keven,

I observed that I don't have wheel effect and brake smoke after RTO in PMDG NGX. My [EFFECTS] section in aicraft.cfg looks:

[EFFECTS]
WheelSnowSpray=fsfx_PFX_L_WheelSnowSpray //FSFX_PFX_Effect
SnowEngineWash=fsfx_PFX_L_SnowEngineWash //FSFX_PFX_Effect
WheelWetSpray=fsfx_PFX_L_WheelWetSpray //FSFX_PFX_Effect
WetEngineWash=fsfx_PFX_L_WetEngineWash //FSFX_PFX_Effect
SkidPavement=fsfx_PFX_L_skidmark //FSFX_PFX_Effect
wake=fx_wake
water=fx_spray
dirt=fx_tchdrt
concrete=fx_sparks
touchdown=fx_tchdwn, 1
vaportrail_l=fx_dummy
vaportrail_r=fx_dummy

How can I resolve it?

Brake smoke any happens when locking the wheels. From the website:

The effect work with aircrafts that are not using the anti-lock braking system since the effect is triggered by the friction of the tire with the pavement!

Ok, understand.

...but why there isn't wheel effect?

There might be something wrong in your configuration.

  • Are you using DirectX 10?
  • If so, have you converted the effects with the SteveFX tool?
  • Are you controlling the weather using Active Sky?

3 x YES.

I observed that I have wheel efffect only in heavy rain conditions (they are not visible in light and moderate rain). Is it normal?

No, the effects should be present in all precipitations states. I know that ASN likes to play with these variables but it shouldn't be that way... Are you trying the effects at a specific airport or at various airports?

I tested it on default FSX' various airports.

I also have REX Direct and it's runways textures - maybe it depends on it?
