Trick to activate Multi-display Surround Mode without actually enabling surround with Nvidia

Recommended Posts

Perhaps this is common knowledge, but for those who are unaware.. I discovered awhile back, a way to NOT need to enable "surround" mode for a multi-display setup.

I have 3 LCDs.. I used to use surround mode exclusively, but found for making videos at 1920x1080 instead of 5760x1080 it was rather annoying to have to switch to a single screen mode.

One day i found that if i had the windowed mode in P3D v2.4 spread partially over all 3 screens then hit alt + enter, it would fill all 3 screens in the exact same manner as having surround mode enabled in the nvidia panel.

The same holds true if you just want it to "maximize" on two of the three screens.. just spread a window across those two screens then hit alt enter.

Passing this "trick" along for those unaware.

Thanks!

That is very interesting, but do you see any performance gain, or some sort of other benefits with this approach?

There is unfortunately no bezel correction this was, which unfortunately makes it a bit unrealistic.

I have been doing this for a few years now and have always had the option of bezel correction when you change the resolution.

It works for me so have another look at your end.

What is the advantage over Surround ?

Can you use DSR ?

On my P3D starts op in windowed mode on 1 screen en with Alt+Enter is expands to all 3.

When hitting Alt+Enter again P3D is back on 1 monitor....

I have Surround and SLI enabled, with SLI settings set in the CP ( are set in 1 screen mode and then switched to surround. Nv CP remembers them , although they now do not show anymore )

I always assumed that it was Nvidia Surround, but I could be wrong.

DSR is not given as an option that I've seen if you are in SLI.

This gets a little grey here as we are told that P3D does not work in SLI however this 3 screen setup works as seen and setup in the NVIDIA control panel. I think that the stretching of the middle screen out to the lateral screens may be a P3D feature and not NVIDIA.

Please can anybody confirm or deny for my own interest as well.

You are saying you found a way to do bezel correction without surround mode?

I have to say I never have used bezel correction in surround mode.. things always lined up pretty closely at least to me, but perhaps i should try it and see if its that much different, guessing it is..

What is the advantage over Surround ?

Can you use DSR ?

On my P3D starts op in windowed mode on 1 screen en with Alt+Enter is expands to all 3.

I have Surround and SLI enabled, with SLI settings set in the CP ( are set in 1 screen mode and then switched to surround. Nv CP remembers them , although they now do not show anymore )

For me the only advantage over surround was that i didnt have to run my normal desktop in surround mode or toggle the desktop via hotkey back and forth.  Basically I could set it and forget it.. not to mention, going to single screen for video recording at 1920x1080 was as simple as maximizing it in the center screen alone (with surround off).

I initially thought there was some weird performance gain too, but that turned out to be a false positive.

I would like to understand how do you run P3D in SLI without megastutters.

No stutters here.

I have very little to no stutters, but I assume the stutters are down to your settings for texture, cloud, AI, shadows etc. As for bezel correction it is with surround mode.

What profile do you use?

Nvidia default? AFR 1? AFR 2? AFR Friendly?

AFR2.

First I disabled Surround so I could set SLI in the NV CP. I do not use NV Inspector.

Then I re-enablef Surround.

I have 2 Titans in SLI.

I decided to give bezel adjustment a try in surround mode.. for my setup, it really didnt help with lining things up.. i found that without surround mode and just stretching it to 3 screens, i was able to align things manually just as well as bezel corrected.

Of course the issue with either mode is the distortion present on the left and right screens / fov issue.. but thats the case with any 3 screen game or simulation, at least until a solution that truly works to fix that is found.
