4760K Z87 upgrade to 5820K or 5930K X99 makes that sense ?

Hi All, 

 

im thinking about to upgrade my current system to a 6 Core X99 System for FSX, FSX SE use. 

 

Actually i have a System with the following specs: 

 

i5 4760K @ 4,8 Ghz 

8 GB DDR3 2866 Mhz CL12 RAM 

250 GB SSD (Samsung) for FSX Only 

128 GB SSD for OS Win7 Ultimate 

GTX 750TI but im planing to upgrade in a few month to GTX 970 or 980

 

For the new build i only want to change the CPU to a 5820 or 5930 a  new board ( AsRock X99 OC Formula)  and 8 GB DDR4 RAM as it s necessary for the upgrade to X99 the rest will stay the same.

 

FSX Setup: 

 

FSX Accl Pack in DX10 Mode with Steves DX10 Fixer 2.6 Version

FTX Global, Vector and LC Europe, Scottland, Wales, England, NA Callifrona and Norway 

PMDG 777-200 and 300 and Majestic Dash 8 Q400 are the planes i use the most 

And addon Airports from FSDreamteam , Fly Tampa, Aerosoft and Orbx 

PreciptFX and Precipt FX for the 777

REX4

REx Soft Clouds

Shade

Active Sky Next for Weater

FS2 Crew 777

Track IR 5 

EZCA Cam 

 

 

The reason why i want to upgrade is i think my system or "FSX" can make good use of the 2 additional Cores for the Terrain loading. Especialy when i Overclock the CPU to 4.6 Ghz as i have watercooling in my system.

 

What do you think im not quite sure if i should upgrade the CPU or stay with my Platform and upgrade the Graphics Card first.

I just completed a rebuild to a  i7-4790K with Asus Z97 Gryphon motherboard and I'm more than happy with the results. I looked at the the xx-5xxx series of processors and I thought the extra increase in speed wasn't warranted with extra cost, cpuboss.com, gives a good comparison of  cpu's.

 

My new build will keep me happy for a few years yet.

The 2 extra cores you will most likely only reach 4.3-4.5 range which will give you LOWER fps, however a slight increase in texture loading with 6 cores.

 

Considering you have a good overclocker being at 4.8, personally I would keep your system. You have fast ram and the new 900 series v-card will also give a SLIGHT bump.

I too would leave current system where it is.  But I'd make it a priority to get a GTX 980 as soon as possible.  That video card is a huge bottleneck in your rig.  You'l probably even get some perf increases while flying with your payware acft/scenery if you upgrade that GPU.

thank you for all the input. 

 

so i should think about a titan ( used) or a gtx 980) i see the problems especially since i moved to dx10 now i need 8 x sgss to get a nice sharp picture even at 1920x1080 and then i see that the 750TI is at 100 % load even if the card has a manufacturer overclock to 1340 Mhz Core speed. 

 

The point with the advantage of i7 is still not interesting? 

 

I use beside fsx the avilasoft efb, ppfx, on a second monitor.  so i thought maybe a 4790k with hypertreading can at least help this programs because windows has more "resources"?

Maybe a 4790K, but you run the risk of getting a poor OCer.  Your 4760K is doing really well.

 

As for a titan... meh.. waste of money unless you have three monitors or something and want all that glorious AA.  The 980 Ti may be coming soon too... 

 

edit: nm about the Ti - could be in to 2016.  But I'd still get a 980 instead of titan for money reasons.

Regarding fps that is correct, but regarding terrain loading , in my case photo scenery , more is better ( read faster terrain loading, less blurries, less stutters )

Hey,

I decided to make a compromise.

 

I buy a 5820k and a gtx 970 g1 gaming.

 

It is not a 980 but im sure the difference at 1920 x 1080 is not that big between 970 and 980.

 

And the 5820k will help with the terrain.

I have a 5820k and GTX 980 superclocked. My CPU OC went to 4.7 with little effort. FSX runs better than ever. I did also note that with this CPU at stock speed (3.4) it still performed very well. I think I'll be sitting pretty for a while.

i hope my 5820k also will go to 4.7 without big issues. 

 

Especially the Rampage V Extreme should help there if the processor is not a to bad sample
