River support is not there yet, but you can do some cool stuff with some tricks and an awesome modding community ;)

A lot of Corby Starlet CJ-1 here. Model ported by Levi, with Craig Richardson's (from ClassicWings.net) permission.

Scenery is Talkeetna, hand made by me.

You can join us in the Outerra Avsim forum!

Hopefully, the next one will show a true overcast ;)

How are flight dynamics in Outerra? Every time I see it I'm wowed, but I just don't know enough about it to pull the trigger.

Outerra is using JSBSIM (Flight Gear). Most simmers agree to say it's a good FDM.

However, Outerra will need at least an advanced scripting layer, as well as clickable cockpits, airframe/engines stress and weather support to be considered as a true flight sim. These features are planned but not here yet.

It does look beautiful.....Hoping it becomes a flight simulator some day.

All the screenshots I've seen of Outerra have looked fantastic. I'd love to see it be developed into as robust a sim as FSX is (albeit without all the issues of FSX) especially with addons like ActiveSkyNext, REX4, etc. What kind of pressure does it put on the GPU? Frame rates?

It's a well balanced engine. Very light on CPU (color and elevation data is directly loaded in the GPU), so a lot of room for simulation. Even GPU side, it's really light compared to the level of detail generated.

Framerate is stable, you can test the demo version to see how it runs on your system :)

What about ATC and AI support, is that even on the drawing board? We don't need another Flight/X-Plane where these things are purposely over looked and/or not fully realized. Great graphics are fine but an interactive would would put it on par with FSX/P3D.

Not planned for initial prototype, as far as we know:

Generally, for successful campaign we will need a prototype showcasing the potential and addressing the main concerns. The prototype is also needed for other developers that would want to prepare and develop early for the simulator. That means enhanced scenery tools, stuff like basic weather support, plugin support for simulation cores, 3D cockpits and instrument rendering, support for other simulator types (mainly the rails for the prototype) and more.

(here)

That being said, I don't think it will be a good idea for them to start working on ATC/AI at a large scale (base AI pathfinding seems to be already in the pipeline). They are a 4 guys team (they were only two until a few month ago) so it's better if they keep doing what they actually do: create tools and let us fill the world.

When I see the crazy solutions develloped by the community, I'm sure we will se someone with enough knowledge on the subject start to work on a plugin for it (it will require more advanced tools than the current ones though).

Hell, apparently we know have HUD and MFD unofficial support :o
