Video Card Suggestions ($150-$200)

Recommended Posts

I know this is a hardware question, and may be more appropriate in another forum, but as an exclusive PMDG operator in FSX, I wanted to focus this question to the PMDG crowd.

I'm currently running a Radeon HD5770 with great results in the NGX.  I'd like to upgrade to a 2GB card for the future use of the PMDG 777 or 747V2, as well as get more performance for other programs such as FarCry 4.

I'd like to stick to a 150 to 200 dollar range for an upgrade.  I understand the GeForce cards are preferred over the Radeon cards for FSX use, can someone remind me why?  And what's a good suggestion for that price range?

GeForce cards tend to be optimized better for gaming, and in general for performance, along with typically lower temperatures compared to AMD products, same serves for Intel vs AMD. At that price range, the GTX750 is a good choice, I just upgraded from a GTX650 that ran PMDG very well. Granted, it was with the 737 NGX, but maxed out, it still achieved 30 FPS easily. The GTX750 can be had for around $150, and if you wanted to spend a little more, You can get an EVGA GTX960 on TD for $240 USD. EVGA is my preferred brand, but MSI, ASUS, Galaxy (Galax on some products), and PNY are all good choices. Whatever you get, make sure your CPU is strong enough, because that's where FSX hits your system the hardest.

Good luck on your search!

Yep - no reason to get anything other than the new 960.

I have the MSI Gaming series 970, it's a great card, I'd go with that brand.

Yeah I'm leaning toward a 960.  Trying to compare between the ASUS and MSI models. Thanks for all of the feedback guys.  I'll more then likely have some setup questions at some point as well.
