Any ideas of what might be the issue? I'm guessing a missing vasi related texture but how to know which one?

that usually happens with payware airports or trial airports. if you got it for free i would report it saying this is probably a pirated version of an airport. if that is fly tampa tampa then it is a pirated version. 

This is a beavior I have observed at some FlyTampa airports for a split-second every now and then. They appear to put some invisible objects on the runways, I guess they are associated with the PAPI lights.

The buildings in the picture do remind me of FlyTampa's airport anyway, this might be objects extracted from said scenery and packaged as freeware.

EDIT: Looking at the product screenshots, I'm pretty positive it is indeed some kind of piracy. I'd suggest you report it to the site where you got this from immediately!

One thing I do know is that you are not using the download you referenced in the OP.

 

I installed that addon and it looks nothing like your screenshots.

This is a pirate copy of FlyTampa's KTPA - no license is what causes your issue.  Go buy it.

Finally had a little bit of time to look into this, turns out I've installed 2 KTPA airports, or remnants of them. One being the FlyTampa demo which I had forgotten I installed a LONG time ago, the other being the one I listed above that I recently installed.
