Orbx Planes Any Experience?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any experience / recommendations / reviews regarding the 3 planes that orbx put out.

They seem to be Kit style GA and I really have no experience in what kit planes can and cant do and my unknowledgeable bias thinks there limited...

But let me know they look sexy... are they good?

I don't have their latest LSA type plane.

I like their LNC4 (Lancair IV-P) the best. Very fast, tricky flight model, aerodynamically slippery, I think you can put a GNS 530/430 from rxp in there. Heck you could probably put the GTN 750 in now that you got me thinking.

The gauges are pretty shimmery - might be my 8xS AA (most people use more these days) - but that's the only downside IMHO

Their RV4 really hurts my pc - in terms of performance. I mean the glass version and the analogue version. The glass gauge has extraordinary programming, it's quite in depth. It's very well done. But I stay away from it - too demanding for my 2500K @4 GHz. There's a maintenance type module that's a neat feature. Overall the plane is fun to fly but it's not nearly as good as their Lancair.

And IMHO the RealAir Lancair is better than either of those.

Orbx Lancair - Fantasic.  Just bear in mind it was released in 2010 though. Nice RXP integration.

Vans RV-4 - Very good and great FDE, but the Glass Screen version is very heavy on frame rates.  The Steam gauge version is fine.  Nice RXP integration.

Airtourer - Really below par compared to the above.  Some very substandard modelling and texturing in the VC and just not convincing or immersive.  Not of the quality to bear the Orbx name IMHO.    No RXP integration and no real redeeming features, although it does have a pretty good custom handheld GPS.

On suggestion I picked up the RealAir Lancair and it has quickly become my go to aircraft. I love it so much.

Great choice, the Legacy is in the top 3 best GA ever developed in flight sim imo.

I couldn't agree with you more.  Orbx does such a good job on their scenery, maybe they should stick with their strong point.  I pretty much love all of the scenery stuff they do -- it transforms my flight sim world.
