FS Aircraft with lots of CHARACTER

Featured Replies

Without doubt, the Tupolev TU-114 by 'Samdim Design'. http://www.chez.com/samdim/home.htmlThe sounds of those 'contra-rotating props' are music to my ears and it's a joy to fly.The character comes with the flight dynamics, the systems and the feel that your actually in it.Sheer magic!------------------------------------------------- Right, should I do another quick lap of the old Nurburgring circuit with 'GT4' or go flying?Dave T.

When I think of character Dreamfleet's 727 is the first thing that pops into my mind.David

About 3 of you in this topic actually know what the phrase 'has character' means.I'll put it to you this way, if it has a glass cockpit it's automatically disqualified by default - from here you can all derive who has actually looked up the meaning of the phrase.

Hey All,Eric I tend to agree with you! That said not all planes without glass cockpits have character either! As far as planes with real character I vote for:Milton Shupe's Howard 500 (number 1)Milton Shupe's AeroCommander 520Bill Lyon's Globe Tempco SwiftBill Lyon's Bobcat (SkyKing)Several WWII aircraftNo trend here! :) And I'm sure there are others by these developers as well as others that I haven't flown. I'm willing to bet that Milton Shupe and Co's soon to be released D-18 will have character! Also - for example - I just know that there must be Cubs and Beavers with character (there are in RL!) - I just haven't found them yet!A more interesting question is what gives these planes character? I've an opinion but I'll wait to see what others say first.Take Care! -Ed-

>Character... I'd go with the RealAir SF-260 Marchetti and>Flight1 Cessna 421 Golden Eagle.Hmmmm, well sir, yesterday I received my keys to the SIAI Marchetti and immediately went for a spin up around Annette Is. in SE Alaska. Woop! Woop! Yes, it's really nice and a little beauty to look at. Has it got "character"? I wouldn't/don't think so. Character, for me, is defined as a Connie or a DC-3 or a B-17 or some other plane which has won absolute renown in the aviation world. (There are quite a few others, didn't want to fill up all the space listing them.)Will the Marchetti be there someday? I wouldn't think so; it's very much a niche airplane. Having said that, you'll get it off my cold dead ... If I really wanted character I might just take out a Sopwith Camel or a Concorde, Piper, Cessna, DeHavilland, Spitfire, Albatross, P-38, P-51, B-24, B-29, 707, Beech (almost any earlier), Goose, Widgeon, PB-Y, Curtis Jenny ... the list gets longer the more I stare at my aircraft folder. I have "keys" to all of them and to some 700 more, although I must admit that some of that 700 really don't fall in the "character" class. Just my $0.000002 worth! :D

Antonov AN24RV. Definitely one of the best flightsim aircraft ever. You could spend the rest of your life learning how to do things the Russion way!And what you all said.Allcott

>>Eric I tend to agree with you! That said not all planes without glass >>cockpits have character either! All PA-28s spring to mind almost immediately. Possibly one of the most boring aircraft ever made. Except for the T-tail Turbo Arrow that is, now there's an aircraft with personality. A difficult one to translate to a sim, but nonetheless, another aircraft that I am suprised not to see Payware implemented.

"IMHO, anything that goes "bing" when you reach your desired altitude can't possibly posses any character :-lol" :-lolAmen!
