PMDG 777 is out for P3D!

Recommended Posts

The world is changing. software as we know it is moving leaps and bounds in new directions. much of It is moving to the mobile world where you download it for free but pay for value added content. it simply makes me smile when comments are made about the cost of software. As an example, I have been playing a top grossing war game from a certain App Store on my iPad where the cost of simple speedups, gems and chests full of consumable items cost very nealy the same amount of money as the highly complex aircraft that took many months of time and effort to write. If you so wish you can spend $139 on somethong you consume within a game and once it's used up you have to spend more. The hard fact is, people do and in such huge quantities that it would make your eyes water. It's a business model that is becoming ever more prevalent. In this day and age, that price point is clearly seen as a weekly entertainment budget.

I simply wanted to put things into perspective so forgive me for going off topic. i personally feel that within our hobby, we are getting a pretty good deal. Of course, everyone has a free choice and an opinion and this is mine.

Rob is right. It runs about 50% better with high graphics settings. I am using GTX 970 @ 1440p. Take notice at the frame rate I am getting outside of the cockpit. Its about half of that in VC

Great pics!  What do you use for AI traffic?

Thx.. Ultimate  Traffic 2

Just for reference since some of the shots have the FPS counter turned on.

I'm running single montior @ 2560x1600, Titan Black , i7 @ 4.5.

The one thing so far that i've discovered doesn't work properly with this aircraft is replay mode. The moving surfaces tend to lock at their final positions when going through the replay.

everyone gets great fps at that altitude and with those cloud settings, take a pic over a city at low FL.

Runs well on my rig. 25+ FPS in VC and more importantly, smooooth. gtx980, 4770k @4.6. Good job PMDG. On to the NGX and 747-400 v2!!

Can you share your settings, please? Just tried Rob's linked tweaks, and all I'm getting in VC above bog-standard EGCC scenery is 6-7FPS in VC and between 15-30FPS in Exterior Views. This is pants. Worse than putting up with the terrain.dll CTDs in FSX-SE.

Thanks for the reply Rob. Yes it's sparse grid super sampling at 4x; I was in the middle of a flight and couldn't remember what the abbreviation was. Sorry about that.

I have to use SGSS due to having to run older drivers for my 970 until Nvidia fixes the runway lights issue or else I get horrible shimmering.

I also meant no disrespect about your system; I am actually impressed and hope to have something similar but for now all my money went to PMDG (it's a joke before anyone gets defensive).

Not sure what AA mode you are operating under as none of those (SSGSS and SGMSS) show up in NI for me? I think you mean SGSS AA (Sparse Grid SuperSampling) ... just so you are aware, I do NOT use SGSS AA for any "normal" flying in P3D, just way to hard on my GPU and causes stutters. So if you believe I have a monster system and I'm not using SGSS AA because it kills performance ... I would imagine a "non-monster" system would suffer performance issues even more.

On a side note: the "monster" (I actually don't consider my setup a monster system as I have a EE friend from Intel than has a few system that are truly "monster" systems ... so it's all relative) system I'm currently building is based on 5960X with moderately high OC ... my 3960X setup is 3 years old now (but it has done all I could ask of it and produced that video) ... I just need to make time (just had no time with testing P3D v2.5 and now with PMDG out) to finish building my other system.

Cheers, Rob.

Somehow my reply got included in your quote. Ipad went stupid or the operator did.

GTX560Ti: Fix that.

Is due to be replaced, but what baffles me is that in FSX-MS, and FSX-SE, I can get above 20-50fps, so if that card is good enough for those two platforms, why not good enough for P3D. Is P3D GPU-hungry?

Not good enough Rick - P3D luvs a a strong gpu - my titan proves that - cant imagine anything less on the gpu side of things

Rick although I now use GTX970 I used to run P3Dv2 with a GTX560Ti Hawk and was getting 30fps (locked) everywhere.  My computer is running 4770K at stock so less powerful than yours.

Graphics usage with the Hawk was approaching or on 100%,  the 970 rather less than that. B)

Lots of opinions in these forums though often not based on fact.  I suggest you look elsewhere to solve your problems, the 560Ti is not the cause.

Can't compare it to fsx since I didn't have the 777 on fsx, but did a flight earlier with it in p3d and really enjoyed it. Very, very smooth and textures load extremely fast. Really happy to have this in my p3d hangar. My frames aren't great, but it is smooth so who cares. Now to hit the books!

Thanks, Appliance(sorry, do not know your name)appreciated. I thought as much. Seems like there is a vogue here for 'if-it's-not-the-latest-it's-outdated' hardware.

Logic said to me, I get high FPS on the other two 32-bit platforms and don't get even a sniff here, surely it cannot just be the card. Your reply more or less nails that it is 'out-dated'. I'm on the verge of buying either a 960 or a 970. I was offered a 760 4Gb at over £230 and thought that was far too much for an older card.

So, far have not been able to see anywhere here, a recommendation for a card that is a universal choice rather than personal choices.

One question i really wanted to ask those who use P3D. Does anyone use any UT2  setting for P3D? If so what are your setting ? Almost on every P3D video i have seen there is no AI traffic.
