Huge VAS leaking with PMDG 777

Recommended Posts

I made couple of test flight with PMDG 777. I came to conclusion there is huge  VAS leaking:

I load 777 first and checked available VAS. It was  1.8 GB at the gate KEWR.

I started to prepare 777 for flight after cumulated time 20 minutes , VAS lost 1GB and available memory was 809 MB.

Ready to leave Gate cumulated time was 40 minutes available memory was 540 MB

During Take-off cumulated time 50 minutes ,available  memory was 390 MB (Good Luck)

During long cruise (Over three hours) available memory  265MB

I know what was coming next . I stopped the flight before OOM

My total VAS lost include Gate+Taxi+Take-off +Cruise was over 1.5GB

I have a new high end PC.

My only conclusion was  PMDG is  developing VAS leaking. I hope I am wrong.

Try the exact same flight with a different aircraft and then you'll know if it's the 777

Here is my present settings. I have FTX Global+Vector and PMDG777

Shuai, thanks for your response.

Only add on is PMDG777. Rest are default.

I may try this when I get home.  I'm not seeing any loss of VAS on my side.  The only item I do not have on your list is global vector as I use UTX 2 (which is not yet usable in 2.5).

I will try to replicate your time etc and monitor my VAS.  I don't think there is a leak in the 777 as I've completed many flights already.

NYC is my performance testing area so I constantly take off and land watching performance and VAS there and have not had an OOM yet.

Is that v2.4 or already 2.5?

because in neither of the two, I'm seeing what you are reporting...

Orbx FTX Global+Vector is not out for 2.5 yet.

Also the 777 is know for high VAS, but not leaking it.

I did a long-haul flight from default VABB-UK2000's EGLL Xtreme, with the PMDG777-300ER, and throughout the flight---albeit without ASN, Orbx FTX, Global or anything else other than FSDT airports, GSX, FlyTampa, UK2000, Aerosoft sceneries, all loaded,-----my VAS leakage never went below 1.2Gb and in fact when I landed at night into EGLL, I still had over 560Mb VAS remaining.

So, as afar as I'm concerned, it is not PMDG's 777 that is causing VAS leakages

Agree with Rick (vc10man) and others!  I do not see a memory leak with the PMDG 777. It is a killer on FPS though with an average of 16 during the flight which was still very smooth. I did see some single digits in the fps counter but those were rare. It's just heavy on fps. Here's my FSUIPC VAS usage report:

As you can see, there was very little loss of VAS after departure from frame rate unfriendly Chicago area.  Using normal Autogen as I had mostly the default scenery loaded (which is quite remarkable).  I think it is very difficult to prove any memory leak on the part of the PMDG 777.

Well stated, Jim. Like you, I average 12-15FPS in VC mode, around 20-25FPS in External modes(but we are simulating flights in a large tubeliner like the 777, and whoever heard of a flightcrew flying a plane in External mode?), so I mostly fly VC, and I noticed smoothness. When I did go to an External View Locked, I observed the passing clouds passing overhead of the aircraft, and I did not notice the clouds flowing past in jitters. It was just smooth flows. So, as far as I'm concerned, if I'm getting smoothness, and no VAS leakages that lead to OOMs, then I'm happy as Larry.

fps are terrible for you two.

In FSX with fps locked @30 fps , I get 30, 90% of the time.

Glad i did not buy it for P3D.

@Jim

Interesting to look thought, with two good addon airports and using MSE you did really well. Fps was really poor :( what setting your running Jim?

Well I have 30 to 35 fps in the VC ;-)

But waiting to add the ORBX and ASN stuff to the mix...as for VAS it's similar as FSX with UT2....

Still testing and see what the effect will be with a full loaded P3D

Yes am also waiting for Orbx and ASN,

I only use Global/Vector and OLC now as I feel its better for tube flying.

Should kill a lot of frames.

I loaded in the aerosoft bus last night and with fps on unlimited i was getting 84 even tried lock at 60 and they stayed there but sim looks cr@p as default with no airports addons and Orbx.

I was getting a "leak" at first with the PMDG 777.  I cannot say this with full certainty, but the only thing I can say is it seems on my setup, that changing the world scenery within the game after I launch it does not handle VAS too well.

Here is what I would do (thanks to Rob's stragegy on this).  Load up the system, make sure you have all of your scenery that you will need selected... go to the origin of your flight and save it.  Exist P3D and then load up the flight manually via the documents folder.  Since I have been loading up the PMDG 777 this way, VAS managmeent is actually BETTER than most of my other payware aircraft.

Regarding sample size, with the above method, I have successfully completed a 16 hour long haul flight, and several slightly shorter ones.

Good luck.

To be honest the default sim scared the heck out of me David without global /vector /olc stuff lol
