Cloud flickering in Mountains

Recommended Posts

With v2.5 I gave P3D a try and installed it beside FSX on a separate SSD.

Yesterday I made a flight over the alps and recognized the annoying cloud flickering in mountainous areas known from FSX.

I thought this bug is gone with volumetric fog?

I used FSGRW as weather engine (because ASN still isn't released) and cumulus01.bmp from REX softclouds. All other clouds are vanilla P3D.

Also tested cirrus_overcast03.bmp from ASN (FSX installation) without no difference.

I noticed similar flickering departing PHNL as I passed North of the Big Island.  Only flicker was in the cloud near the 14000 ft volcano.  Use default weather theme, no add-ons, no add-on textures.

Thanks for your answer. First I thought I'am the only one with this problem because no one answers in this topic.

Let's wait for ASN but I doubt this will change something. So this is still a bug and volumetric fog does not really stop it.

I have noticed the cloud flickering effect too in P3D2.4 (not sure if its version specific) using ASN and REX soft clouds.  Usually where the cloud touches the mountain, I see a hard line and flickering effect.

I experience this same flickering as well. I've tried altering over a dozen different graphics settings and can't seem to eliminate it. I tried to search the LM site for this issue, but its search engine doesn't work for me. Nothing I enter ever provides a return. Does anyone know if this is a known issue or if there's a setting that will fix it?

Thanks,

Robert

A bit more investigation, and I found two solutions for this problem. The best one is to use Opus weather. It doesn't have the problem to begin with. Otherwise, if you're using ASN, then go to Cloud Options and bump the P3D Cloud Offset distance from 0 to 500. I found this will eliminate about 90% of the flickering.
