FSX SE- Please Help Blurries on decent and tweaked system

Recommended Posts

Hello to everyone,

i need help regarding FSX config, i have read all tweaks of Bojote, xxxxx, Nick, but FSX is still giving blurries on a (at least i think) decent system.

Here is my system specs:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 (worst part sadly, overclocked to 3,6MHZ)

8 GB Corsair RAM 1600 MHZ

SSD OCZ VECTOR 150 120GB (50 gb free space, with installed OS and FSX+addons)

Sapphire ATI Radeon R9 270X 2gb GDDR5 (overclocked +10%speed, 1500MHZ Memory clock)

New Windows 7 X64 build, installed last week and optimzed with Kostas suggestions

FSX SE

add on:

FTX Global - VECTOR - OpenLC. FTX New Zeeland

Rex 4 TD (1024 32 bit textures)

FSGENESIS

Scenery Tech Landclass

In summary: fsx settings has suggested by FTX NZ manual, no vsync, FFTF=0,99 to max texture loading)

Texture Bandwidth calculaion:

Max Texture Data= (1500MHZX24X2)/30=2400 -> (2400/1024)*100=234 rounded down to 220)

i'm trying to use more of GPU power (I also tried TBM =400, texturemaxload=30, bufferpools=0 but with no improvement)

Antialiasing with CCC Supersampling 4X + ansiot. 8X (I think quite low?)

Using FTX New Zeeland i got slow loading of textures with frequent blurries, although the FPS does not drop below the 24-25 (i feel quite smooth)

I don't think the system cannot handle it and i would accept 25FPS, but not the blurries... and i'm not going to change CPU right now

I'm starting to grow tired of FSX and thinking to change it for Prepar3D V2, but before that i posted an help request here: maybe i'm misunderstanding something....!!

Please help me!!

thanks

"[Main] FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0,99"

get rid of that

I would try this:

Delete your FSX.cfg (or how this thing is called in FSX:SE) and let FSX:SE build a new one. Open your Sim, set your resolution correctly, be sure that you use 32bit for colours and make sure that all those .dlls are accepted again. Then you exit FSX:SE without doing anything further.

Then, you open the config file with a text editor, and you check if

HIGHMEMFIX=1

is correctly written in the section [GRAPHICS]

Now, you can modify your FFTF value. For this, you add in the section [Main]:

FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.22

I would start with 0.22, the standard value is 0.33, lower values increase generally your FPS with the risk of blurries... I would never go higher than the standard value of 0.33...

Now, you fire up FSX:SE and you go through the settings. First, set the internal FPS limiter to 30.

Then, I would select in the graphics section:
- Resolution as you want, 32bit.
- trilinear filtering, antialiasing depends on how you use it (via CCC or via FSX...)
- global texture resolution to max
- no DX10
- lensflare on
- lightbloom off
- advanced animations on

in the aircraft section:
- 3D panel or 2D panel as you want
- no transparency
- no tooltips
- high-resolution 3-D cockpit on
- aircraft casts shadows on the ground off (unless you use only fsx-native AI models or no AI at all)
- aircraft casts shadows on itself off
- aircraft landing-lights illuminate ground on

in the scenery section:
- level of detail radius: large
- mesh complexity: 100
- mesh resolution: 10m
- texture resolution: 7cm
- water effects: low, 2.x
- land detail textures on
- scenery complexity: very dense
- autogen density: normal
- ground scenery shadows: off
- special effects detail: high

in the weather section:
use the pulldown to select "ultra high", then:
- thermal visualization: none
- select detailed clouds and move the slider to "high"
- simulation settings as you wish (depends on whether you use an external weather tool or not)

in the traffic section:
- airline traffic density: as low as possible, depends on your AI traffic tool, if you use none, I would recommend nothing higher than 20%

- general aviation as above...
- airport vehicle density: as low as possible, I have it off, as I mostly fly to and from AES supported airports. For GSX, check their manual.
- aircraft labels at will
- road vehicles: max 5%
- ships and ferries: max 10%
- leisure boats: max 10%

Thats for a beginning. If you encounter low FPS, start reducing autogen and AI traffic first without touching any other settings. Autogen, AI traffic and those vehicles (airport, ships, cars) are FPS killers, you can reduce those settings always a notch without loosing to much image quality and immersion.

If you are generally happy with your performance, you can finetune your config now (not before):

LOD_RADIUS=6.500000 (instead of 4.500000)

and

Texture_Bandwith_Mult=XXX using the value depending on your graphics card. I recommend a value of 120.

Thank you very much for your replies.

just tried your suggestions (auto rebuild FSX.cfg with those settings) but texture loading is still slow: despite the fact that FPS stay at 30-29min i get blurries. I'm now flying in FTX Norway with A2A P51D+accu sim (is a slow performance airplane?)

Let me better explain: at takeoff of course is all at focus and loaded, but going on during the flight the texture loading cannot keep up and the scenery get more and more blurred. If i pause texture loading slowly returns to LOD radius

I putted those settings (included FFTF=max) because i wanted that FSX prioritze texture loading instead of perfomance, But it continues going 30FPS with slow loading of tex.....!

with GPU Z i can see max load = 30-40% with windows tashmanager i see instead Cores running at high / max speed

I would like to use more GPU power but can't understand how!

"[Main] FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0,99" The FFTF has a comma for a decimal point so it might be interpreted as zero.

This and my setup above was intended as it is: a setup. A start. And BEFORE you again use your strange FFTF=0.99 value, please at least try once to obey to my setup precisely, really. I can not help you if you continue to use those "0,99" values for FFTF which, as SteveW and I already pointed out most probably results in a FFTF of "0". With a FFTF=0, you get blurries as fast as hell, that is for sure. Try the value "0.22" with a decimal point instead of a comma and report back, I am pretty sure that with 0.22, you do not get blurries that fast. If you still get the blurries, you should try the advice from SteveW and completely remove the FFTF line out of your config. Everything else is rubbish, a value of 0.99 would increase the load so dramatically on your system, that you would get no more than 2-3FPS...

I would like to use more GPU power but can't understand how!

As FSX is mainly depending on a fast CPU and you run FSX on an already aged AMD processor, you can not expect a higher GPU load. But you can use the remaining GPU power to increase image quality via your CCC settings, use slightly more antialiasing, increase anisotropic filtering and things like that.

AnkH, maybe there was a misunderstanding: i did what you said FFTF = 0.22 and other settings and experienced still blurries

i then cancelled the string FFTF has kindly suggested by SteveW and no significant improvement

but i noticed that in my default CFG (rebuilt by FSX) Texture Bandwidth Mult = 160! Wasn't it 40?

I tried to set it back to 40 and blurries were less (but still )present

tried another plane (Piglet's PC7) but no improvement in texture loading speed

any other advice? Really i was thinking that high FFTF would increase texture loading

I don't matter if FPS are 25, but i want texture loaded

thanks again

Well, then try it. I do honestly not understand why you get blurries that fast when using FFTF=0.22 or no such string at all. The Texture Bandwith Mult is one of those things that FSX:SE has changed over the "old" FSX. Also HIGHMEMFIX you do not to have anymore when using FSX:SE, that's all. I would leave this as it is. I am sorry to say, but in the end you are the perfect example why nobody recommends using AMD processors and AMD graphics cards for FSX, it is simply to tricky to have it properly configured...

Anyway, at what speed do you fly? What LOD_RADIUS value do you use now? Do you use an external FPS limiter? It might be worth to also put all CCC settings back to standard. I mean, blurries occur on my computer if the system can not load the textures fast enough. Reasons: as many as settings inside FSX, but FFTF, bufferpools and unlimited/limited FPS being the most obvious. If above setup does not help, it gets tricky...

LOD radius=4,5 speed 200-300 knots

Also to me lowering the multipler to improve texture loading seems strange... but tried Bandwidth mult = 60, 80, 120 with no better result

I already put CCC settings back to standard...

don't know what to do maybe i simply must buy Prepar3D...or a better CPU

What about trying DX10?

EDIT: sorry another thing: i noticed in task manager CPU usage red bars in cores under the green ones

what does it mean?

tks

I would try without the mesh. A high res mesh can reduce the effective LOD and increase blurries.

Hi Guys!

i'm very happy because after messing a lot with FSX CFG i have finally discovered the key (for my system) and it is... FFTF=0.9(with full stop!)!!! It was not working because of the comma insted "." but it was right!

in this way (with A.Mask=14, UPPER FPS=22) my (slow) core 0 is managing to keep up and send enough information to my GPU. So no more near blurries altrought i get still some distant pop up- But the overall effect is good to me in a intensive scenery like FTX Norway (scenery settings all maxed exc. Mesh=10m,Autogen density=Normal, water low2X in game AA off see below)

Also i set back bandwidth mult to 200 because i discovered that with the more data sent by CPU to GPU an higher value (compatible with my GPU) make loading faster.Mystery unsolved here because band mult did not incide for the limited amount of data that the CPU sent (my mistake i saw something that was not there indeed)

FPS around 21-22 but that is the max my system can handle with necessary texture processing... also i'm able to set LOd RADIUS=5,5 and the system seems to keep it up with texture loading (to further test)

This i think can be usefull for users that have slow CPU and fast GPU expecially AMD users.

Also (for really fast GPU)

[bufferPools]
UsePools=1
PoolSize=23554432
RejectThreshold=20000 (very extreme value, but little flashiing and no artifacts with R9 270)

As for CCC settings i disabled anti aliasing in game (like suggested elsewhere, sorry don't have the link google it) and set AA 4X filtering (ansio in game) 16X. This i find is not slowing my texture loading speed because this is most a GPU's job.

Thank you very much for making me notice the error in FFTF formula, reading my bad english and for the support!

ps: Steve if i change mesh resolution the system automatically reverse it to 10m... i don't know how and if it is FTX regions or maybe FSgenesis but no matter if i change it in .CFG or in game, every time i opne settings-display-scenery is always 10m or more.

Great, nice to hear that you managed to find the best setting for your system. As I said, every system is different, and I am sure that I have never heard of somebody using that high FFTF values, but if it works for your build, that's all what is important here. I will give this setting once in a while also a try, I am curious what my system does with it, as for now, my FPS are faaaar to low if I use anything higher than 0.2 for FFTF.

Also, unrelated to your blurries but still.

You have a resolution of 1680x1050, you should change WideViewAspect=False to True.

I have finally discovered the origin of my problems: noobish overclocking!

I raised only cpu multipler and got 3,6ghz, but they were not used well for data/memory management because there was a most obvious cpu/nb bottleneck!

Infact my cpu/nb was still at stock settings (i think 1800-2000 mhz).

I managed to find the sweet spot 240x16 3.840ghz 1,5 cpu volt (maybe this will be the last glorious days of my good-old amd x4955be but it deserved to die perfotming well :-) jokes apart the system is stable at max 49-50 celsius) cpu/nb 2640 mhz ht link 2150 mhz. Ram at stock settings.

With this i got an huge booster in texture loading and drop fftf to 0,75, increase lod radius to 6,5!! Instant texture loading and no distant pop ups, 1 hour trips low altitude across half ftx norway at 300knots and texture loading keeps up!!!

I want to share my experience with this forum because i learn a lot of things reading numerous threads on fsx tweaking and hardware ocing. I feel the mistake i have done is common for new oc adepts, so beware cpu/nb!

Also dont oc the graphic card if you have a new gen card like mine and an old cpu, because, cpu bottleneck make the data flow perfectly manageable by a fast gpu even with reject threshold=128kbts.

Hope this can be usefull

It's amazing to fly now and watching ftx scenery in alk its beauty (max setting exc. Autogen to normal)

Thanks again to everyone (i set also wideaspect true as kindly suggested)

Thanks for sharing this experience, sounds interesting, I definitely have to try those settings once in a while as well.
