Terrain artifacts - what is the cause?

Recommended Posts

On a flight from EGBB (Birmingham, England) to LGTS (Thessalonika, Greece) today my aircraft passed over the MEDUX waypoint in southern former Yugoslavia. I looked down over the snowy mountains and was disappointed and surprised to see this...

I have UTX Europe but I think this area is outside its reach. FTX Global is active together with FS Global Ultimate (Europe).

My PC is no slouch (i7 4770K o/c to 4.4, GTX 780 3Gb). Scenery settings are Extremely Dense and mesh is at 5m. FPS is locked at 45.

Any ideas why the card is not capable of rendering the landscape better than this?

Hi Ray,

Perhaps it's not a problem with the card.  You may wish to pause the simulation with that view and go into the Scenery Library and selectively disable/enable possible suspects.  Once the selections have been made the results will be immediately visible after the resulting textures have been loaded. At least, it may help in knowing what to focus on.

Thanks Jim. This is a pretty barren area as far as airports are concerned. Nearest is probably Bari in southern Italy. A long way away.

Only other scenery areas are European and Global texture packages as listed. Earlier in the flight I passed over the Alps and those appeared fine.

I'll place the aircraft over that area tomorrow and see if I can recreate that image. My only other thought was possible low VAS. By the time I reached LGTS it was dangerously low but over these mountains there was 1Gb+ so it's a long shot.
