Outerra Version 0.8.4.5244

Recommended Posts

Well, we know the Clouds are here, but now so are the lights, and the race is on to light up the world of Outerra. New planes are almost done, point and spot lights are being tweaked (a user has reported 3000 lights on screen simultaneously, with only moderate framerate hit) and in short, Outerra seems to be moving to a new stage of development. Stay tuned!

Runway lights are a biggie, apparently.  ^_^

The runway light system will include:

Edge lights, centerline lights, approach centerline lights, threshold lights, displaced threshold lights, displaced threshold side bar lights, end threshold lights, touchdown zone lights, visual approach slope indicator lights, and precision approach indicator lights, as well as rotating Aerodrome Beacon lights.

Regards,

Uriah

Sweet mother of virtual reality... That looks like most dreams come true.. Are the cockpits clickable now?

Not yet, but its certainly a goal. Here is the response from the developers to that question:

A clickable cockpit is certainly doable, we just need to provide some helpers for scripts that will allow you to define clickable elements in the cockpit, and then providing the click events that can be handled in the aircraft script.

For aircraft systems simulation we plan to use a component system based on what we are already using internally, that allows to define components that are either implemented in C++ plugins, or scripted in JS.

Actually, the goal is to use all this for a prototype aircraft for the demo that can be used for Kickstarter simulator campaign, and we are looking at how this can/should be done.

Speaking of Virtual Reality. Outerra does quite well with the Oculus........

Many thanks for the explanation, HiFlyer. Now, Outerra with the Oculus is something beyond my imagination. Can't wait for the future sometimes..

I really want to test it on Occulus. The sense of distance is one of the most credible I've ever have with a 3D engine. I will just set myself in a mountain area with a good vista, set time to x10, and put some good music :)

Oh yeah, and do that thing too:

If thou' were a freakish mutant like me, you could see the 3d in the video as clear as day with no problem. Just have to look at it the right way.

My gosh that is so realistic! Those clouds under the A380...

I do have a question about this: Is this a stand-alone 3D software, so an advanced plug-in?

Outerra is a stand-alone program in early alpha. (and likely to be that way for a while) It is not a plug-in for fsx or any other software.

Demo is free, and the whole program is $15 at this point.

Hi Devon,

May I ask...again maybe...what is it that makes the engine so efficient, if it is indeed?  Is it 64 bit yet?  Is it more multi-core friendly?  How will SLI work w/ it?
