FSX:SE - wow, wow and WOW

The G3d had to be fixed by FSUIPC in Steam as it was in FSX by Pete.

Only in the first release. It was fixed by DTG in 62613 (actually before, but in a limited Beta release).  FSUIPC no longer has to patch around any bugs in FSX-SE. And DoveTail added an automatic dump action to FSX-SE which assists them fixing anything which may occur in the future. They have some very good, keen responsive and knowledgeable programmers under contract. Just look at the performance -- versions 62607 to 62613 within the space of 5 months (admittedly 4 being limited release Betas -- but i've seen and tested them all), and every one boasting little tweaks and improvements.

It's as if Microsoft had decided to continue developing FSX after all these years, at a rapidly accelerated rate too, and the improvements are significant., even if you do prefer to bury your head in the sand and ignore it.

Okay, they may be limited by contract to keep the "look and feel" as it is -- i.e. no new signifcant user facilities or changes. But this doesn't prevent the source improvements which have led to smoother, faster performance and better memory handling. And there's no reason either why that cannot continue.

I've changed over completely because i just love how smooth it is with sliders much higher than i had before. Okay, if you don't want to gain from the improvements, don't, but it is rather silly to deny what others clearly enjoy and report.

Thanks for the correction. That is great news. I only fly 3 aircraft and 2 have Reality-XP avionics, I'm stuck on FSX Acceleration unfortunately!

Beyond that nothing was altered with respect to the FSX code itself. Fact.

Even I know that your Fact is wrong now. Fact.

Pete - thanks for injecting some good sense and positive information back into this thread. I'm with the OP on this one. SE really is a wow - it is everything we were all hoping for back in 2009!!!

Even I know that your Fact is wrong now. Fact.

Incorrect...they are bound by contract to not change the core code. The only changes (and DTG has confirmed this more than once) is/are they made changes to the multi player/and or UI aspect of FSX. Fact.

In essence...no change in performance, no change in look, no change in OOM, no change in anything of significance. And those items never will never change. The core code is too old and can not be changed without a rewrite that will completely break backwards compatibility with add-ons.

I don't get why you keep going on this line.. did you at least bother to read the changelog of all the patches they released before making this statement?

Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."

As a wise man once said

"Haters are gonna hate"

Enjoy the sim. The fact that DTG took prehistoric FSX and gave it a new lease of life , with nice performance for majority of people for FIVE DOLLARS. Respect.

+1 haters are gonna hate, and certain age groups are more resistant to change as well...

Of which they all pertain to either multi-player aspect, UI aspect, already known tweak/s or fixes that were a result of Steams doing...

And no haters don't always hate given I own both.  I just want people to realize your not going to see day & night improvements in performance.

If you of all people say there's an underlying change we can all put this one to rest.  This is great confirmation.  Thanks Pete...

With all due respect:

Pete Dowson - FSUIPC developer, respected developer of a program that actually hooks into FSX.  He has delved into the guts of both FSX and FSX-SE.

or...

Some guy with nickname "udidwht" with not even 20 posts (your next one with be the big milestone) telling us Pete is wrong.

I don't gamble, but I know what horse I'm betting on.

EDIT:  And yes I do own both, and SE out performs in memory management hands down.  (I lock my FPS, so I could care less about those).

Bugs Fixed

* Fix to particle emitter controllers which were not being updated properly.

* Fix to flush all levels of detail in terrain cache.

* Fix to Texture Composition preventing fail and crash.

* Fixed issue where player is able to reserve more slots for friends than maximum players allowed in the game.

* Fixed issue where invalid Briefing Room was presented to player when cancelling session creation.

* Fixed issue where weather text in the multiplayer briefing room is partially cut off.

* Fixed issue where no error message appears when attempting to host a session with the network adapter disabled.

* Fixed issue where there is no error message when attempting to host a session with the network cable unplugged.

* Fixed issue where host player is frozen after a collision occurs in multiplayer.

* Fixed issue where client gets dropped from a multiplayer game after they crash into the host.

* Fixed issue where the Host Options in multiplayer/ Free Flight allow a user to have a maximum of 99 player slots.

* UIAutomationCore.dll work-a-round is now supplied by default with FSX:SE. This fixes a number of crashes relating to UI interaction on 64-bit versions of Windows.

* Fixed issue where the applications taskbar preview window displays no content on Windows 8 and above

* Prevent default colour mode for Windows 7 and above (enable automatic display composition).

* sserife.fon file now automatically supplied and loaded.

Note the highlighted bug fix, this is what has improved VAS Management. While I agree Frame rates are not much different (There is a small improvement, but from my testing this is attribute to the the SmallPartRejectRadius  set to 1, when I set it to 0 or take it out all together, I see the same performance as FSX-Box, and if I set it to 1 in FSX-Box, I get the same improved frame rate as FSX-SE. That said FSX-SE is butter smooth compared to FSX-Box. There is little if any stuttering compared to FSX-Box. That is most likely attributed, to the more advanced and efficient compiler used. The only thing DTG can't do is add new features to change the look and feel. ex: They can't implement cloud to ground Shadows like P3D has. They can and are fixing existing bugs, including those that affect performance.

Thanks

Tom
