Leonard Nimoy, Spock of ‘Star Trek,’ Dies at 83

Recommended Posts

We all knew it was coming, eventually. He lived a long life, prospered, and made an impression on literally millions of people all over the world. His voice and face were instantly recognizable and he certainly left an indelible mark on my life

Mr Nimoy had announced last year that he had been diagnosed with COPD, a chronic respiratory disease caused by smoking, that has no cure. He encouraged his followers to stop smoking. His last tweet, made at 2:36 AM on Feb 23, 2015 said "A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP"

(He always signed his posts Live long and Prosper)

He will be well and truly missed!

Good night Spock. Goodbye Mr Nimoy. Rest in peace.

Aw, this makes me quite sad. Loved (well, still do) Star Trek as a kid and Mr. Spock was surely my favourite. Being a long-time Civilization player I also loved his voice narrating the tech tree in Civilization 4.

He was just one of those people I would have liked to grab a beer with.

I met him when I was very little. I was on the bus in New York with my mom, and I was staring with my mouth open and was probably vibrating from head to toe, not believing what I was seeing, until my mom finally had enough and asked for his autograph for me. He was very nice.

Wow! Now I am jealous! Do you still have the autograph?

Nimoy was also an IFR-rated pilot. There was a video on YouTube from the 1970s where at the end of the interview he got into his Piper Arrow and flew off to give a lecture somewhere. Unfortunately the video was taken down. I did find this screen shot:

It is the logical end to human life. Probably the last words he uttered. He was great.

Lost it forever ago. Vanished in the mists of Childhood, with all my old GI Joes.......  :(

It's a pity he wasn't really a Vulcan, otherwise he'd still be with us in body. At least his spirit will live on in literally untold millions of folk's memories.

That's a pretty impressive legacy by anyone's measure.

LLAP Mr. Nimoy

True. No joke, my lifelong devotion to calm, logic and rationality was derived directly from my childhood attraction to the character of Spock. I use to look at myself in the mirror and practice raising my eyebrows as a kid until it became a part of me.

Now thats, an impact.
