i like it a lot, i presume the challenge, sounds of a 4 turbo prop, having the cockpit breathing and living will be just mind blowing. Welcome pmdg to xplane!! Lest hope we have it available soon.

Wow, a very complex aircraft, four throttles, four mixture controls, VOR/DME, ADF. It really looks great!

It sure looks beautiful, but somehow I get the impression that it's a testbed for PMDG to show off their skills to the XP fraternity - look what we can do!

 

The DC-6 looks like a very intimidating and complex beast to tame, and oh-so esoteric and specialist. I hope that it appeals to the XP crowd.

 

As part of that XP crowd, I can't say that it's my cup of tea; I have the Just Flight DC-6, and whilst I am not comparing one to the other, I will suggest that my JF DC-6 has been hangared for years, perhaps due lack of interest, or lack of interest and product sparkle.

 

My question is this: Is this an accurate enough benchmark for PMDG to determine with fair accuracy the actual XP market? It is a very specialist product, with, I might venture, fairly limited appeal.

 

Had PMDG announced that the product that they were porting across from FSX to XP was to be their highly fabled fairy tailed Dash-8 Q400, well then, that would be, as they say, an entirely different story.

 

I'm not nay-saying, as no-one can deny that it looks stupendous, but this product is aimed squarely at radial engine aficionado's. Hope the smoke belching is accurate - here's hoping that PMDG will somehow recreate that sight, sound and, err, smell...

No- this is not an accurate statement- and your fears are founded in your misunderstanding of what we are doing, not in the reality of how we operate.  I have said all along that we were working on a sandbox project in order to learn how to develop for Xplane.

 

What better sandbox project than to take a project that we are already creating for the love of the airplane, and use that as our learning tool?

 

Just this once give us the benefit of the doubt that we are pretty good at what we do- and we wouldn't invest tens of thousands of developer hours and the costs associated with development in order to "experiment with marketing numbers" on a platform....

 

That would be just plane... erm... plain foolish.

 

Seriously- this isn't our first trip to the Rodeo... We know quite a bit of about the marketplace and where it stands- what we don't (or...didn't) know is how to take OUR core logic and move it into Xplane...

 

and THAT is what this project is all about.

Did you even read what I just posted? RSR's commentary basically says the following:

1. We created the plane to test bringing our methodology and code into a new environment (XP).
2. We created the DC-6 because we're passionate about old planes big radials.
3. We know how the market works

Where, in any of that, says "we made it to sell it to a lot of people?"

 

In fact it almost says the opposite:

We made it because we wanted to make it, and needed something to test how we bring our logic onto a new platform.

Very interesting..... Congrats to the PMDG Team on a complex project that looks extraordinary. I will add the DC-6B to my X-Plane hangar.

 

Quite a feat to produce products for FSX, P3D and X-Plane available to the PC, MAC and Linux operating systems. A plus for the whole flight sim community.

 

I will be looking forward to the B737NGX release for X-Plane.

You didn't say that but you do realise that you've just increased the X-Plane fan base by quite a significant amount.
