Linda 2.6.0 crash :/

Recommended Posts

That is good news ScotFlieger,

I hope you find the culprit.

In the mean time I will be enjoying version 2.5.7.

A Solution

Hi all

After much scratching on my head I have finally pinned down the common theme with the reported CTD after FSX/P3D completes loading. Those users affected do not use the VRInsight MCP panels and have never set them up. Their FSUIPC4.ini files are missing the entry:

[VRInsight]
1=com3

The workaround I can offer is simple:

  1. Install LINDA 2.6.2 (as per release note).
  2. Open LINDA 2.6.2.
  3. Select Setup MCP Combo page.
  4. Tick Enabled under MCP Combo settings.
  5. Select a Type (ie. MCP2 (Boeing)).
  6. Select a COM Port (ie. COM3).
  7. Click Save.
  8. The FSUIPC status will change to red.
  9. Click button 'Make changes for you?'
  10. If you are not using a MCP panel, untick Enabled checkbox.
  11. Start FSX/P3D and go flying!

I will need to investigate why this FSUIPC4.ini setting did not cause a problem with LINDA 2.5.7 but does with 2.6.*.  However, the above fix has no impact of normal operation and will allow users to prevent from the new changes in the latest version of LINDA.

Great job, many thanks for such a quick solution!

I can report that 2.6.2 is working fine on my system now. Funnily enough I am expecting my VRInsight panel to arrive within a day or two and was planning to see if it worked with 2.6.2 or not.

Reloading the Lua engine also works fine now - no crash when I try this.

The console in 2.6.2 opens automatically when Linda loads. Not a problem but different behaviour to 2.5.7

Hi Dbaber

Thank you for your comments. The console will appear automatically when an error is flagged (red text).  If you have left the MCP enabled, in anticipation of your new panel coming, it is likely that this is the cause. Sometimes LUA will report an configuration or code error which can be cleared by clicking Reload LUA Engine.

Congratulations, Scot.  But, with all the work I've put into this, I fully expect a free version of your software :)  Someone told me once that bug fixing in software was a lot like solving a murder.  Logical, step by step, removing suspects one at a time.   Way to go.

P.S. Oh yeah, I forgot.  My LINDA 2.6.2 is working flawlessly.

Understood, thanks.

Actually I hadn't enabled the VRInsight panel but recall that the console was showing an error on com 3, which I had reserved as per your suggestion. (Obviously with no actual panel being connected Linda threw up an error)

Forgot to say that I was also happily able to disconnect then reconnect hardware on the fly too. :-)

Hope your head has a good rest from all the scratching now!! ;-)

Permanent fix to the reported Crash on Startup is now available in LINDA 2.6.3 available at top of Download sub-forum.  This removes the need for the workaround published at post #47 above.

The Windows crash report is not much help. Can you email me the fsuipc4.log and linda2.log files (in /fsx/modules/) to linda@awginfosys.net?

I upgraded to Linda 2.6.7, FSUIPC 4.9 registred, Windows 10 and I can see switches work in Linda but no switches work in my PMDG 737. I'm having message from Linda, [E] *** LUA Error: ...s\common\FSX\modules\linda-cfg/system/config-hid.lua:21: attempt to index global 'JSTK3' (a nil value)

Please assist.

LINDA 2.6.7 is too old. I suggest you need to update to LINDA 2.8.9 and FSUIPC4 4.960. Any LUA Errors reported will stop LINDA working. If you get the same problem after updating, please follow the pinned fault reporting procedure and I will see what I can do to help.

Hi Scot

Thanks for your quick response.

Linda 3.1 and Win 8.1 and FSX worked beautifully.

Now, the environment is:Linda 2.8.9, FSUIPC 4.961, Win 10, FSX SE, no Combo, few external USB circuit boards.I followed exactly the installation procedure and what you suggested in the previous post.

After starting FSX and going to Linda a message is: serious error. Linda closing.

After few attempts to open Linda again I have error:access violation at address 005451D1B in module Linda.exe. Read of address 0000278.

I'm sending log files to linda@awginfosys.net

Thanks

Thank you for the email and info above. I have asked for the more detailed log. I will look at the access violation error as that is of greater concern.
