P3D V2.5 panels.dll crash

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I have been getting this panels.dll CTD lately. I just bought the 777 for P3D, love it even though I have only completed 2 flights. Crash usually happens on the ground. This also happens in the default F-22 also. Specs are below. Thanks for any insight!

Specs: 3570k i5 @4.2 - 8GBs1600 Vengeance Ram - H80 cooler - GTX560Ti (thinking about upgrading) - Corsair TX850 PSU

Win7 64bit - P3D V2.5 (latest hotfix incl.) - ASN (5540) - REX TD4 - Soft Clouds

In FSX, this was fixed by loading the default aircraft first and then loading the add-on.  If you changed your default startup (like a saved flight, etc.), you might want to rebuild the p3d.cfg.

I vaguely remember that "back in the FSX days". But I have not changed the start up. Only thing I changed would be a saved panel state for the 777. But when I load P3D, its still the default F-22 and at Norfolk. BTW this happened also before the 777, but not nearly as frequently. I wonder if saving a panel state would cause this?

That's the problem.  Don't ask me though how to get it back to the default though....

Alright, sorry for the delay, my wife and I were in DC for a long weekend. I got a chance to revert the custom panel state from the 777 back to the default, and the panel.dll crash is still there, along with a new one, api.dll. I am seriously considering doing a clean install, but dread doing that very much. If I go that far, I may as well back everything up and just do a clean Win7 re-install! lol Any other suggestions before I jump off this "cliff" of reinstalling everything? Thanks again!

This is still going on. Even after I had reinstalled Prepar3d and did a clean install after. I have even tried starting the default flight first, then going back to the create scenario screen and setting up a flight. I remember vaguely back in the day I think with FS9 that was the fix. But not this time!

Same problem here.  Since upgrading to P3D I've attempted 3 flights.  All 3 ended in Fatal Error caused by panels.dll.....

This indicates that you are running out of memory.  I have a feeling you have a tweak or two in your p3d.cfg that is not working properly.

This is still going on. Even after I had reinstalled Prepar3d and did a clean install after. I have even tried starting the default flight first, then going back to the create scenario screen and setting up a flight. I remember vaguely back in the day I think with FS9 that was the fix. But not this time!

There is something wrong with your configuration.  Going back to the default settings for P3D plus making sure you have no tweaks installed might help.  Something is set too high.  A tweak, like a BufferPool or AffinityMask tweak will bring your simulator down to its knees if not configured properly.  What works for some does not work for others (otherwise Lockheed Martin would have put the tweak permanently in the config).

However, what is extremely strange, even with the above possible fix(es), is that no one else or I should say very few get this error with p3d OR fsx anymore.  It is an extremely rare crash where it is shown as the faulting module.  If you do a search on the Internet you will see that everyone who got this error from across the flight simulation community fixed it by loading the default flight first.  If you can find another solution, I will then add it to the AVSIM CTD Guide.

If you are using a Saitek controller, disable it and see if the problem continues.

You have several options available to you to investigate and fix this problem (all shown in the AVSIM CTD Guide):

Move your p3d.cfg, scenery.cfg, dll.xml and exe.dll to a temporary folder.  Restart P3D.  Is the problem gone?  If so, the problem is in one of those files.

Scan your system for corrupt files - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833

Uninstall your video card drivers.  Start up Windows in Safe mode and then reinstall.  Make sure you right click the drivers install program and select Run as Administrator.

Run P3D as Administrator.  You can make this permanent (unless you reinstall P3D) by going to the P3D main folder and finding Prepard3D.exe.  Right click on it and select Properties.  Once open, select the Compatibility tab and look all the way down and make sure it states Run as Administrator for All Users.

When you installed P3D, did you turn off UAC?  Did you disable any anti-virus or anti-malware program?

Run a Registry Cleaner.

Make sure your hardware drivers are up to date.  Many times a USB port is not up to date and whatever is plugged into it will cause a crash when used.  Run a freeware driver scanner program and it will tell you if they are all up to date.  If not, then you can search the Internet for the updated drivers or you can let the freeware driver scanner program do all that work for you for a small annual license fee.  I think the only one that is totally free right now is Driver Booster from Iobit.  It will update your drivers for free but the downloads are slow unless you pay a fee to register the product.
