YEAH BABY!!!

Now where's that bottle of champers I had put away for a special occasion?

I'm interested in seeing the performance hit.  Currently I use roughly half of my 16 GB of RAM while flying so I'm hoping this won't force me to upgrade.  I use HD mesh only in certain areas.

It's a long-awaited update, but one which will likely force many XP10 users to add more RAM, as OOM problems will be a definite possibility. Not the Classic FSX-style OOM where the 4GB VAS limit is exceeded, but true depletion of all available physical RAM.

I upgraded my system from 8 to 32 GB last year in anticipation of the enhanced DSF update - hope it's enough!

Simply put, this looks amazing.

While much has been said regarding the rough requirements for overall system RAM, I haven't seen any mention of the demand placed on GPU memory.  Insights?

Let's not over-dramatise this; Ben says it will be an option. So if for example supposing it requires a minimum of 16GB with HD mesh, the people with less can just leave it off. No-one will be forced to do anything, although some may choose to upgrade if they wish to benefit from it.

I wonder if 10.40 is going to be the last update before 11 ? I know there is still plenty to fix !

Surely cool to have the option, but I think it will influence the performance quite dramatically! ;-)

I'm not as excited about this as I might be.  Using the highest rendering settings for scenery detail, I find my distance scenery rendering is quite realistic.  I get very high framerates on a very powerful computer, but I'm not eager to give up those framerates for distance detail that may end up being overkill.  I'm just not seeing the blurry distant textures that I've seen in some screenshots.  Nonetheless, it will be interesting and I'm glad the option to ignore the high range DSF is there.

I understand it will be an option, and while nobody will be "forced" to use it, the majority of those posting to this particular thread are individuals who are very much looking forward to the enhanced DSF, and undoubtedly will try it. Just pointing out that the option - especially in conjunction with HD mesh - will likely require more than 16GB of system RAM, to provide a comfortable amount of headroom.

It would be nice to know how much ram will be required to use the high range DSF with normal world scenery, not HD meshes, I'm on 8 gb of RAM but if that is the bare minimum for that option, I would consider upgrade to just 16 gb (for now).

It's pretty much overkill if you only fly low-and-slow, and use detailed scenery such a World2XPlane or OSM2XP. Once above 10,000feet, buildings fade away and if using photoscenery, you'd be best of disabling the objects if this is your type of flying. I can imagine increased loading times (especially with detailed scenery such as Germany), but FPS shouldn't suffer because of the LOD distance. I guess time will tell
