The majority of Humberside IS Yorkshire! The rest is Lincolnshire, which I'll grant you is flat, boring farm land.

You guys have funny names for places.....Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, divide the land up and stick Shire on the end of it and it becomes a place 

 

Let me guess, Lincoln got this land and Derby got that land and they just stuck Shire on the end of their names to name it? Must have been something like that.

In my opinion, they're often "cries for help" where all else has failed.  It's a bit mean to make a statement like yours ....... can you imagine how the OP would feel to read your comment?

Naming New Zealand was easy, first they discovered the North Island and said we shall call this North Island.

 

Then they traveled further south and discovered the South Island and said we shall call this South Island.

 

Then they went even further south and discovered another island and were confused, so they said Let ask Stewart what we should call this island
