[30MAR15] NGX Updates and some other News Bits

Not to my knowledge. I believe our installer is simply launching the MS DX9 installer, which, of course, has the bloatware in it. If you're absolutely sure you have a newer version of DX9 (which you should by now), you can just cancel it. With how many times we uninstall/reinstall with all of the beta builds, it saves a bunch of time by just killing it and not asking it to check against the installed version.

Thanks, I'll try cancelling it next time. I've always let it run in case the installation didn't finish properly.

Has anyone had any performance loss after this update?

On the contrary I'm seeing a small boost, only about a2 to 3 fps increase, but I don't have that strong of a system, so I take what  can get (3Ghz C2D, unfortunately can't be overclocked because it's a DELL)

If doing a full uninstall/reinstall to update to this latest version, should the Operations Center be uninstalled as well?

No need Dave, in fact a remove/install of NGX is only required if you have both FSX and FSXSE platforms installed.  During beta, I verified that running the installer and letting it upgrade worked on P3D.

Thanks Oliver for the heads up,  I went to Aerosoft and with the reg key was able to download the update (745 MG)  had a few issues trying to install it but eventually had to remove 737NG disc version and reinstall  it and then update, everything runs fine and I have the Control Centre now and I have downloaded some of the LIveries, works like a charm.  Thanks to Aerosoft and the advice from the forums.

I have the SP1C with the Airac cycle that came with it installed. Now if I uninstall and reinstall the NGX with this latest version, how would I proceed with keeping some of the navdata from SP1C airac cycle intact so I can still fly the tutorials as described? I have read that LLZ26 Lowi may not exist anymore in the newer Airac cycles. Basically, if possible, can I manually insert that approach (copy and paste kind of way) from my SP1C airac cycle nav data into the new one I presume will be installed with the new NGX version?

I don't need all the old navdata, but some would be great to have selectable in the FMC.

You can manually back-up the AIRAC files. Just go to your FSX main folder, open the PMDG folder and then copy the NAVDATA and SIDSTARS folders to a temporary location, so you can paste them back after reinstallation.

Can I copy the content of the backup folders and paste it into the new folders? Will I then have both the old and new approaches and SID/STARS selectable in the FMC without issues?

No that wouldn't work. The procedures for a given airport are contained in a text file who's name is the ICAO for that airport, ie. the procedures for KIAH are contained in a text file called KIAH.txt. So, you can only have one KIAH.txt file in your SIDSTARS folder at a time, so only either old or new. Hope that helps

So, to have the old LOWI approaches I would need to edit the new LOWI.txt file and add the LLZ26 approach from the old NAVDATA folder? Would that work?

Thanks everyone for replying.

You could back up both cycles and copy into the correct place the one you want to use for your next flights.

What happened to AVSIM

Makes complete sense. I will follow that advice instead of messing with the files.

Thanks.

Hi All

Sorry if this has been asked before , but I have gone through the forum , with the new update for the NGX , do I have to re-install all my liveries that I have entered before or does it not effect them

Regards

Karl
