Seems you missed "April Fools" by a day...oh wait...you're serious?

Nice post, I too tire of the proselytizing.

The 64 bit thing is such a panacea.  If FSX was programmed properly it wouldn't need a 64 bit deep waste bin.

I still use Windows 95 Jim. With that, do you think I should upgrade to FS98 or do you think I'd be better off using my current setup of FS95

The FS98 libraries were recently recompiled for Windows 95 thus DOUBLING everyone's frame rates.  I saw a YouTube video once that showed this to be true, flying over the ocean, with not a cloud in the sky and no scenery being shown. This and this alone should convince the ENTIRE sim world to switch from MS FSX to FS98.

FS98?!

NO DYNAMIC SHADOWS

NO DETERMINED FUTURE FOR 64-BIT

NO DX12

NO GTX TITAN X 8K

NO $135 COPY OF $90 FSX PMDG 777

HAR HAR HAR INFERIOR PRODUCT TO P3D

WIN98 SE is just DRM HEAVY STEAM EDITION

Am I doing this right?

No, Daniel, sorry. And no god-rays either even though an artist's rendition has them. I saw it on the Internet so it must be true.

But my Profile visits are sure up today. Not sure what people expect to see when they visit that page!

My FS4 runs fine.  I'm not switching.

I can set ASN to 55 cloud layers, 650 mile cloud draw distance and still have 758 avg. FPS!!!

Sorry to break the news to you Devin, but ASN hasn't been upgraded to work with FS98 yet so you are seeing some strange promised Weather Underground plug in weather.

Because the targets keep moving all around, the developers fix things once and before you know it, things are broken again. But remember that the latest and greatest is always the best!

Ah shoot!  I knew it was too good to be true!!  I guess once ASN is updated, I'll only get 400 FPS?!?!

I still remember when my parents bought me FS98... I couldn't stay away from the computer.

Gotta thank my dad for letting me borrow his helmet

That's classic. Reminds me of when I was a kid and my mom let me build a cockpit that was basically a big box made of of particle board with a seat in it and a hole cut in the front to fix my CRT through. That was back in my Commodore 64 days of subLogic flight sim and Jet. My mom called it a hot box but I loved every minute of it.

It will depend on your HDR settings and all your shadow settings. I just know you care about ground shadows while flying at 32K feet. I know I do.

Well, I CAN see them at 32 zoom and if I squint!

I'm just doing a bit of nostalgic reading on FU over at Wikipedia. The flight model was light years ahead of FSX/P3D! In 1994! 1994!!!!!

My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days

FS98 crashed on my Cyrix 133 Mhz PC! This blows! I'm installing Fly! or FlightUnlimited!

No, don't do that! There are certain .dll fixes on the way and always remember that 64 bit will fix everything someday.

You better now do a comparison to XPX for those sitting on that fence. Please include both default, freeware, and payware planes in your comparisons. Thanks!!

Based on the advice here I just installed FS98 (true statement). But I have no idea how it's working. Everything is smooth but I don't know what the frame rate is. All I see in the frame rate counter of a bunch of question marks and asterisks. I seem to remember that in FS98 if the frame rate exceeds some value (999?)  it won't display properly. I can't fly or use the sim if I don't know the frame rate. How can anyone use any sim if they can't see the frame rate? Does anyone remember how the FS98 frame rate counter works? Help!!!!
