VRS F/A-18E and its tacpack has been release for P3D academic

Featured Replies

I dont think its just a different installer that took them so long. If you have a closer look, you will see that you get more and improved systems (IR) wich only p3d can deliver...Price is ok IMHO..Top quality product. And its evolving with the plattform, also important point for me.

Well, back in the pit. There is so much to learn

"The installer for FSX gives you an option to install the superbug for use with or without tacpack."

I have both for FSX also.

But, this topic is all about the SuperBug for P3D.

Right, i was speaking of my knowledge from the FSX verison. I stand corrected. My apologies for taking your time.

I understand .. no worry ..

just that I am still wondering why the TacPack is required for a P3D purchase (which was not required for FSX).

Some pilots may just want to do carrier landings e.g.

I would have considered it, but since I qualify for the professional P3D license and don't qualify for the academic license, it looks like I'll have to pass.  Too bad.

But "VRS MUST assume that all Prepar3D Professional TacPack licenses will be used commercially" (their words) and then have a link in another post to the P3D license page which outlines all of the other uses for the Pro license besides commercial installations. Whatever.

And TacPack is a requirement? Whatever.

well to be honest, I also had it, being a cashcow, I did it with pmdg 777, I have not done it with the 737 and I will not do it with the superbug....my decision...new products I am willing to pay the fullprice...same products that get just ported with some minor things....no. guys, costumers have the power.

BTW... just wait for DCS 2.0 and the F/A 18, then you have a real combatsimulator.... :-)

McDan has indeed a point. VRS could at least have included their hifi flight dynamics model to ease the cash expenditure.

The DCS F/A-18 might still take long to come ... Very long. Unfortunatly.

Indeed, also Leatherneck, makers of the superb Mig 21 in DCS, are developing a F14 for DCS, should allow you to live out 'most' of your Top Gun fantasies.

From what i read over in the VRS forums the Pro/Pro+ is for commercial and Academic is for non-commercial home use. But looking at Lockheed's definition seems that you could get the commerical Pro version for simulation and not be a commercial entity.

Exactly.  Without opening up another of those discussions... I'm a business consultant and sometimes work with aerospace companies.  So that points me toward the commercial license.   But I'm a sole proprietor, not a training establishment.  I'm guessing that the licensing decision was made quickly - perhaps some more options will open up if they have a chance to review some of the real-world use cases, which can be complicated.

It can't be easy for any developer to figure this stuff out.

Nothing is easy when it involves the words license, legal, lawyer, law, etc. unfortunately, especially when you are dealing with an international market.

Well back to the product ...

It runs beautifully in P3d 2.5 with the latest hotfix. I'm getting better framerates with higher IQ settings than with TacPack-enabled aircraft in FSX-SE. All of the IRIS and Dino C. TacPack aircraft seem to work without modification in P3d, but there maybe some problems that will show up later, I suppose. FSX@War is still being tinkered with to work with P3d 2.5, but it shouldn't be too long now before that is released also. The CCP (Carrier Convoy Planner) for P3d 2.5 is released and is quite a nice app.

I too thought that not supporting P3d Pro was unfortunate, as that was the version that I originally owned also. But, there is zero flight simming-based advantage of the Pro version (other than the lack of the tiny watermark and saving the cost of buying the Academic version) and I switched to the Academic version about 3 months ago in anticipation of the release of the Bug and TacPack.

I want to stress that the following is my own opinion. LM markets a P3d Pro Plus version with working weapons that sells for thousands of dollars US (basically, it's a TacPack-like clone of P3d Pro). I am speculating that VRS was worried from a legal standpoint about releasing a product that would match the P3d Pro license and substantially undercut LM. Also, VRS has a competing product that sells for roughly the same price as P3d Pro Plus and works with P3d Pro.

Anyway, the last major add-on for FSX that didn't work with P3d now does.

I would have thought they could market their product for the Academic and Professional versions, and save the commercial version for the Professional Plus crowd who may want something in addition to what Lockheed is providing. Maybe VRS has something to do with the Professional Plus version already?
