November 3, 20169 yr DCS has one vital thing VRS cannot ever have: AI forces to mingle and fight alongside and with. For some time I've thought (and hoped) that a 3rd party dev would come along and offer a fully dynamic campaign simulation add-on for P3D. Basically, mirror what Falcon 4.0 did (and its community derivatives, like BMS). That is, an ongoing simulated war that unfolds over time and keeps track of allied/enemy inventory and losses; has critical supply routes, etc. You could actually just sit in the menu view and watch the war unfold on the map in real time, and watch as the computer generates missions that you can fly or the computer will simulate. Seems like Tac Pack and FSX@War are preliminary steps in that direction, but nobody offers a truly dynamic campaign. And, as for AI forces... why can't VRS or someone else add this to P3D? Doesn't seem like there should be any limitation in the program itself?
November 3, 20169 yr Hi All, I have been running the Superbug on my P3D v3.4 setup, and it is a great A/C. However, neither FSX nor P3D is setup as a Combat Sim. I also have DCS world, and like many, I am anticipating the introduction of an F-18 and a highly detailed American carrier. I suspect we may see this come to be in 2017 as I don't think it will make 2016....my opinion! The question of the VRS team of adding their F-18 Superbug to DCS World was answered by Varmint in their forum, here is his quote: "No, there is no fee that I know of up front. There is however an extraordinarily large sales commission post-development. However, the issue for us is that ED won't publicly release their SDK. They only release it to developers who sign a pre-sales agreement, and that's what we find unacceptable. That puts them in a position to dictate terms before there's even a product, which is counter to all comparable game engines and/or development SDKs that I'm aware of. We're interested when we can see the entire SDK and make an informed decision about whether we want to commit to such a project, without signing anything other than perhaps a standard NDA (at most). Further, the current setup allows ED to dictate who can and can't even see the SDK, much less develop and sell products based on it. By requiring that the developer state the type of project (e.g. what aircraft), one would assume they even give themselves the power to cherry pick features. For example if we were interested in doing a legacy Hornet, ED could and would deny the use of the SDK outright. In essence, they have the power (whether or not they exercise it) to control which developers can use the SDK, what aircraft and features are modeled, and most likely also have the power to terminate use rights at any time, meaning (for example), if they decide they don't like us anymore, or wanted to build a directly competing aircraft, they could tell us we can't sell a product even if it's already been in development for months or years. That's not a gamble we can afford to take." This unfortunate, as this A/C would be a perfect fit in DCS. But the team has made a business decision, all we can hope is that the situation will change and this F-18 version will be considered as an add-on product to DCS Bill Clark Windows 10 Pro, Ver 21H2 CPU I5-8600K 5.0GHz, GPU Nvidia RTX 3090 VRAM 24GB Gigabyte Z370 Gaming 7, 2TB M2.NVMe, RAM 32GB
May 17, 20179 yr So now I am trying to decide if I should get this or not for P3D? Or maybe the PMDG 737NGX?
May 17, 20179 yr Even though I bought the Superbug for FSX, I'm gonna pass on this. I done with the fleecing by some developers. June 30, 20196 yr Why the hefty price tag of $105 for both (Superbug and Tacpack) of the products to use 1 plane for P3D v4 Academic? And why in the world do we need TacPack for p3d v4 & FSX:SE?
